KIRKLAND: Babe? I’m not talking about dip. I’m talking about a house for our family.
CHARLIE: Oh I’m…I’m sorry.
KIRKLAND: What’s going on with you?
KIRKLAND: Uh oh. Is this is a secret you’re about to disclose?
CHARLIE: Nooo. It happened on the same day I found I was pregnant.
KIRKLAND: What happened?
KIRKLAND: What did she say?
CHARLIE: It was surreal. Like I…couldn’t believe what I was hearing. She actually said what she said.
KIRKLAND: Okay? Like tell me already. What did Dr. Mason say?

AT THE WINTHROP’S,
FRANKIE IS SLEEPING NEXT TO CASS, WHO IS ALSO SLEEPING.
FRANKIE’S DREAM
THERE’S A CROWD OF
CHANTING PEOPLE AND SUDDENLY THERE’S A GUNSHOT.
END FRANKIE’S DREAM
FRANKIE WAKES UP AND
SITS UP IN THE BED. CASS WAKES UP, TURNS
OVER, AND SITS UP.
CASS: Frankie?
You alright?
FRANKIE: I just had one of the weirdest dreams.
CASS: Is this another one of your premonitions?
FRANKIE: No Cass, this feels like it’s almost real.
CASS: Do you remember what it was about?
FRANKIE: I heard a crowd chanting. Almost like a protest.
CASS: What were they saying?
FRANKIE: I couldn’t make it out. Then a shot rang out.
CASS: So someone got shot at the protest? Where was it?
FRANKIE: I don’t know. I’ve had dreams before but this feels…feels weird.
CASS: Maybe it’s nothing you need to worry about. It’s just a dream right?
FRANKIE: Maybe I’m just worried about Aunt Sharlene. I feel like we’re so close to cracking this whole thing.
CASS: I wish we could talk to Christy.
FRANKIE: She definitely could tell us everything.
CASS: I can’t get a beat on her at all.
FRANKIE: Neither can I.
CASS: Wait a minute.
FRANKIE: What? Did you think of something?
CASS: Yes. Why are we talking about Christy in our soon to be marital bed?
FRANKIE: I dunno. You brought her up.
CASS: Alright then well…no more Christy talk.
THEY KISS AND MAKE
LOVE.

AT THE HOSPITAL, SHARLENE,
WHO HAS A GUN IN HER PURSE, WALKS SLOWLY DOWN A HALLWAY, AND FROM AROUND THE
CORNER WALL, SHE SEES BRIANNA. SHE
PLACES HER HAND INSIDE OF HER PURSE.
Brianna Jameson |
Sharlene Hudson |
Dante Carlino |
BRIANNA: Who wants to know?
DANTE HOLDS UP HIS BADGE.
BRIANNA: What’s this about?
DANTE: Is there someplace private we can go to?
BRIANNA: You still haven’t told me what this is about.
DANTE: We can talk here or at the station, but we have to talk…now.
BRIANNA: Not until you tell me what this is for?
DANTE: Ms. Jameson don’t make this more difficult than it has to be.
BRIANNA: Well I’m sorry if it makes me nervous that a police detective approaches me at the hospital telling me to come down to the station.
BRIANNA: Wait wait wait okay. I’ll go.
John Hudson |
SHARLENE: Ahhh! You scared me.
JOHN: What are you doing here?
CHARLIE: Yes.
KIRKLAND: No I’m not really questioning you I just…I can’t believe she said that.
CHARLIE: Yeah.
KIRKLAND: I think you gotta hold her accountable. You were judged unfairly.
CHARLIE: Maybe I should leave it alone. I don’t want to cause any trouble.
KIRKLAND: Babe, whether you want to look at it as you not being hired because you weren’t black or because you were white, it’s still wrong. That’s discrimination.
KIRKLAND: So you think that Dr. Mason shouldn’t be taken to task for what she did?
CHARLIE: That’s not what I’m saying.
KIRKLAND: I’m sorry but I’m not understanding the conflict that you’re having.
CHARLIE: The last time my dad sued the hospital for that medical malpractice, my parents were shunned by the whole town.
KIRKLAND: I don’t remember it. My mom told me about it though. So you’re scared that people aren’t gonna like Cass and Frankie? I’m sure they don’t really care about that.
CHARLIE: So now do you remember what happened when Nick Hudson was on trial for rape?
KIRKLAND: I DO remember that.
CHARLIE: The city was divided. If my dad sues the hospital for what Dr. Mason said, it might be worse this time. I don’t wanna be the cause of that.
KIRKLAND: Come here.
CHARLIE: How could it not?
KIRKLAND: Because you’re the victim here. Dr. Mason should not have said what she said. She should have judged based on your qualifications, not because you weren’t black or were white or whatever. I think you should tell your dad…as soon as possible.
CHARLIE: This is real heavy.
KIRKLAND: It is, but I support you whatever you decide.
CHARLIE: Have you told your parents that they’re gonna be grandparents yet?
KIRKLAND: No but, that pales in comparison to what you’re going through.
CHARLIE: Are you sure?
KIRKLAND: Well, dealing with my mom and dad together can be a challenge, but you gotta deal with this. Tell your dad.

SHARLENE: Um I…came to see if you…wanted something to
eat.
JOHN: You’re a terrible liar.
SHARLENE: Alright. I came to give Brianna a piece of my mind.
JOHN: Dammit Sharlene I told you to stay home where it’s safer!
SHARLENE: Looks like she got hauled off by the cops. Wonder what for.
JOHN GENTLY PLACES HIS
HANDS ON SHARLENE’S SHOULDERS AND LOOKS INTO HER EYES.
JOHN: Honey.
Go home.
FRANKIE: All that lovemaking has worked up an appetite.
CASS: Yeah but nobody eats this late.
FRANKIE: If we were Charlie’s age we’d be ordering pizza.
CASS: And none of it would stick to us.
FRANKIE: Not one calorie.
CASS: Those kids can eat anything and not gain a single pound.
FRANKIE: Oh the good old days.
CASS: What was your favorite…late night snack?
FRANKIE: Oh come on Cass now you’re making me hungry.
CASS: You’re the one who brought up food.
FRANKIE: No it was you actually. I think you’re losin’ it counselor.
CASS: Objection. Speculation.
BRIANNA: Looks like a bag of pills to me.
DANTE: Are you sure that’s all it is?
BRIANNA: Look what is this all for?
DANTE: This is synthetic hydrocodone. It’s got a very high street value.
BRIANNA: And you say all that to say?
DANTE: Where did you get these from and who did you give them to?
BRIANNA: What does this have to do with me?
DANTE SLAMS HIS HANDS ON THE DESK AND LEANS IN CLOSER TO BRIANNA.
BRIANNA: Who told you that I did this?
DANTE: So you’re confessing?
BRIANNA: You come to the hospital. Embarrass me and bring me down to the police station and what have you got. Someone’s word?
DANTE: There’s an opioid crisis in this town, and you’re part of it. They told me that you gave them these.
DANTE: I can hold you for forty eight hours.
BRIANNA: And you’re not gonna find any evidence.
DANTE: We’ll see about that.
BRIANNA: I get a phone call don’t I?
DANTE: Who are you calling? A lawyer? Why would you need one of those if you weren’t guilty?
BRIANNA: What are you holding me here for?
DANTE: Suspicion of drug trafficking. Make your call.
SHARLENE: Oh cut the crap. This definitely isn’t a friendly visit.
Ooo it's on now! The pressure is on in so many stories.
ReplyDeleteBrianna must know the walls are closing in. I'm sure she's about to do something desperate to keep herself out of jail. Love the suspense of Sharlene hiding the gun, while she overhears Dante arrest Brianna. I know she'll probably find a way out of this situation for the moment, but it does feel like she's in real trouble now. Dante will be keeping his eyes on her.
Cass and Frankie's scenes felt very natural and sensual. Great work there. But we all know it's about to hit the fan. Charlie is this lose to telling Cass about Thomasina's reasons for not hiring her. I loved seeing her internal struggle to determine what to do next. It's a very real process that so many people is colour have to go through. It's fascinating to see the tables turned, especially with people only sort of... Scratching the surface of what that could mean.
That ending was everything. After John specifically told Sharlene not to, she doesn't listen and confronts Brianna anyway. This is about to get really good. Another excellent episode.
