KIRKLAND CONFESSES ALL TO CHARLIE?

and

BRIDGET VS. MICHELE…the final showdown? Continued

IN THIS EPISODE:  Dr. Steven Frame, Joy Kramer; Kirkland Harrison, Charlie Winthrop Harrison; Donna Love, Vicky Hudson; Bridget McKinnon, Michele McKinnon

PREVIOUSLY ON ANOTHER WORLD
  • Kirkland was being blackmailed by Eric Stenbeck into having an affair with him.  He has since been wracked with guilt and has struggled to tell his wife Charlie the truth
  • Michele, who was a straight A student in high school, drew praise from her mother and father, Vicky Hudson and Jake McKinnon. Michele also dated Cory in high school. This made Bridget jealous.  Bridget stole vodka from her great grandfather Reginald's liquor cabinet to assist in her seduction of Cory on prom night.  Michele caught Bridget kissing Cory, who thought he was kissing Bridget's identical twin Michele.  Bridget and Michele argued which carried on outside.  Michele slipped and was struck by an oncoming car.  She was declared brain dead, but Reginald gave her a drug to make it appear that way.  He got Michele's face changed, and nursed her back to health.  Michele, however, had revenge on her mind and returned to Bay City.  Since Michele returned, she has set out to make Bridget's life miserable.  Bridget, seeing right through Michele, slept with Cory Hutchins, and bragged about it to Michele.  Bridget also posted a derogatory comment on social media about Michele.   This caused Michele to devise her most dastardly plan yet.  She broke into the Bay City Medical Center mainframe and changed Bridget's negative chlamydia test with another patient's positive test.  Bridget thinks she has chlamydia and this has led to her and Cory's breakup

PART 1

IN A CAR, STEVEN IS DRIVING AND JOY IS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER’S SEAT…
Dr. Steven Frame

Joy Kramer

STEVEN:  I wonder what Hilda made.  Her food’s always been good.
JOY:  Who’s Hilda?
STEVEN:  She’s the housekeeper.
JOY:  Oh.  Who else is coming to dinner?
STEVEN:  Just us and…Cory and Elizabeth.
JOY:  I can’t believe you have an aunt and an uncle that are so much younger than you.
STEVEN:  I should have invited my brother.  He could use his family right now.

--------------

KIRKLAND WALKS INTO HIS SUITE AND SHUTS THE DOOR.  CHARLIE WALKS OUT OF THE BATHROOM.
Kirkland Harrison

Charlie Winthrop Harrison

CHARLIE:  Hi baby I didn’t hear you come in.

KIRKLAND WALKS UP TO HER AND HUGS HER TIGHTLY.

CHARLIE:  Oh.  What was that for?

KIRKLAND DISENGAGES HIS HUG, SITS ON THE COUCH, AND LOOKS STRAIGHT AHEAD.  CHARLIE SITS NEXT TO HIM.

CHARLIE:  Something is definitely on your mind.  What’s going on?
KIRKLAND:  I’m…I’m so sorry.  I’m so sorry for what I did.
CHARLIE:  What exactly did you do?  Wait a minute.  Is this about the toilet seat?  You’ve been pretty good about leaving it down lately.
KIRKLAND:  No.  It’s…it’s much more serious than that.

KIRKLAND GETS UP AND WALKS SLOWLY TOWARD THE DOOR, STOPPING A FEW STEPS FROM IT.  CHARLIE THEN GETS UP.

CHARLIE:  Okay you’re scaring me.

HE TURNS AROUND, WALKS UP TO HER, AND PUTS HIS HANDS ON HIS SHOULDERS.

KIRKLAND:  I love you…so much.  All I wanted to do was protect our marriage.
CHARLIE:  What do you mean protect our marriage?  I mean you act as if it’s in trouble.  Is it?
KIRKLAND:  After what I’m about to tell it probably will be.
CHARLIE:  Kirkland…what are you talking about?  Why will our marriage be in…?  Are you…are you?  No.

CHARLIE TURNS AROUND FACING AWAY SHAKING HER HEAD.

CHARLIE:  No.  You’re…are you trying to tell me that…you’re cheating on me?
KIRKLAND:  Babe I…

CHARLIE TURNS AROUND WITH HER ARMS FOLDED.

CHARLIE:  Answer the question.

KIRKLAND WALKS SLOWLY TOWARD HER.

KIRKLAND:  Yes.
CHARLIE:  No…no you’re not.  You wouldn’t…put our marriage in jeopardy like that would you?
KIRKLAND:  I’m so sorry.  I think…maybe you’ll…try to understand.  I was trying to protect us.
CHARLIE:  Protect us?  From whom?  What did she say?  Did she threaten to hurt you or me?
KIRKLAND:  No…there’s…there’s no she.
CHARLIE:  Okay you’re not making any sense here.  You’re saying you…cheated on me to protect us, and it’s not from another…oh my God.

CHARLIE WALKS SLOWLY UP TO KIRKLAND.

CHARLIE:  It’s…it’s a man?  You’re gay?
KIRKLAND:  No that’s not what I’m…

CHARLIE SLAPS KIRKLAND ACROSS HIS LEFT CHEEK WITH HER RIGHT HAND.

CHARLIE:  How could you do this to us?

----------------

AT VICKY’S, SOMEONE RINGS THE DOORBELL AND VICKY WALKS THROUGH THE LIVING ROOM TO OPEN THE DOOR.

Donna Love

Vicky Hudson

VICKY:  Donna.
DONNA (walking in):  How could you?
VICKY (closing the door):  What are you talking about?
DONNA (facing Vicky):  You don’t believe Bridget?
VICKY:  No as a matter of fact I don’t.
DONNA:  Look I don’t know whatever it is that you have against Bridget, but you need to stop it and start being a mother to her!
VICKY:  Excuse me?
DONNA:  Bridget insists she didn’t sleep with anyone else.
VICKY:  Okay so you’re telling me that she ate a chlamydia burger and that’s how she got it.  She’s obviously lying.
DONNA:  Bridget loves Cory and she would never cheat on him.
VICKY:  I don’t believe one word of that.  As far as I’m concerned Bridget made this mess, and I’m not about to call in a crew to clean it up for her.

-----------------

IN FRONT OF THE CORYS, BRIDGET AND MICHELE FACE OFF…

MICHELE FACES THE FRONT DOOR OF THE CORY MANSION WHEN BRIDGET EMERGES FROM BEHIND.
Michele McKinnon

Bridget McKinnon

BRIDGET:  You just couldn’t wait to get your hands on him could you?

MICHELE ROLLS HER EYES, FROWNS, AND TURNS AROUND SLOWLY TO FACE HER SISTER.

MICHELE:  What the hell are you talking about?
BRIDGET:  I saw you.  You were all over him.
MICHELE:  Seriously?  Cory is my friend.
BRIDGET:  Oh please.  You wanna be more than friends.  I know mom told you.  As soon as you found out, you came running over here to be around Cory!
MICHELE:  That’s because you were diagnosed with chlamydia.  Mom told me that, too, and there’s only one way you can get it.
BRIDGET:  Cory thinks I slept with someone else and I didn’t.
MICHELE:  And he thinks you’re lying to him right?
BRIDGET:  It’s not a lie.  I never slept with anyone else.
MICHELE:  And I believe you.

CAMERA PAN ON MICHELE…SLOW FADE TO THEME SONG.

-----------------

JOY:  Wow is…is everything okay with Kirkland?
STEVEN:  He’s just got some things on his mind.
JOY:  You really…care about him.
STEVEN:  Course I do.  I mean I…we almost lost him.  I remember he was hit by a car when we were little.  He was lying there in the hospital connected to all those tubes.  I told my little brother that I loved him.  Ever since that day I…I vowed that I’d be there for him.

JOY PUTS HER LEFT HAND ON STEVEN’S RIGHT HAND AS HE STEERS WITH HIS LEFT HAND.

JOY:  That’s really sweet.  He’s lucky to have you as a big brother.

-----------------

KIRKLAND:  I can’t begin to tell you how sorry I am.
CHARLIE:  No you can’t!

CHARLIE TURNS HER BACK TO KIRKLAND.

CHARLIE:  You…were sleeping with Eric?  Oh my God.  I…he pretended to be my friend.

CHARLIE TURNS BACK AROUND TO FACE KIRKLAND.

CHARLIE:  And you pretended to be my husband.  It all makes sense now.  You were so…stern about me staying away from Eric.  That’s because you wanted to keep sleeping with him!
KIRKLAND:  I…he…all I wanted to do was protect our marriage.
CHARLIE:  Seriously Kirkland?  You expect me to believe that!  You and Eric have been playing me this whole time!  I hate you!
KIRKLAND:  No…please…Charlie I love you.
CHARLIE:  You and Eric can go straight to hell!
KIRKLAND:  Charlie?  Charlie?

KIRKLAND FLASHES TO THE PRESENT AS HE STOPS HIS DAYDREAM.  HE STANDS IN FRONT OF THE DOOR TO HIS SUITE.

KIRKLAND:  Here it goes.

HE SLIDES THE KEY CARD INTO THE SLOT.  THE GREEN LIGHT FLASHES AND HE OPENS THE DOOR.  HE SHUTS THE DOOR, TURNS AROUND, AND SEES CHARLIE WALKING OUT OF THE BATHROOM.

-----------------

KIRKLAND WALKS INTO HIS SUITE AND SHUTS THE DOOR.  CHARLIE WALKS OUT OF THE BATHROOM.

CHARLIE:  I’m glad you’re home.

------------------

JOY TAKES A DEEP BREATH AND LOOKS STRAIGHT AHEAD.

JOY:  I have a question though.  You guys were little right?
STEVEN:  Yeah.
JOY:  So was Vicky watching Kirkland at the time?
STEVEN:  We were outside playing.
JOY:  What kind of mother doesn’t look after her child?
STEVEN:  Okay I’m not…I’m not gonna let you bash my mom.  She did the best she could under the circumstances.
JOY:  You lived in Paris didn’t you?
STEVEN:  My mom sent me there to live with my dad.
JOY:  Are you serious?  Why?  How could she do something like that?

-------------------

DONNA:  Nobody is asking you to make excuses for Bridget, but let’s face it, you haven’t exactly been supportive of her at all and I don’t like it.
VICKY:  I do support my children.
DONNA:  Only the ones you like.
VICKY:  I love all of them.  Steven, Kirkland, Michele and Bridget.
DONNA:  Well then you need to show that to Bridget.
VICKY:  What are you talking about?  That’s all I’ve shown her.
DONNA:  My goodness Victoria how much deeper in denial could you be?  You disowned her at Michele’s memorial.
VICKY:  I was grieving for my daughter.
DONNA:  Do you realize how much that must have hurt her?  I don’t think she’s ever going to forget that.
VICKY:  Bridget knows that I love her.
DONNA:  How could that be possible by the way you treat her?   As hard as I am working to keep this family together, maybe you’re the one who’s making everything difficult.  You are one of the reasons that the girls are fighting.

------------------

BRIDGET:  You believe me?  Please your fake is showing.
MICHELE:  Oh it’s not false.  I totally believe that you didn’t sleep with someone else.
BRIDGET:  Cory tested negative for chlamydia.

MICHELE TURNS AROUND AND FACES THE FRONT DOOR AGAIN.

MICHELE:  Oh it was…it was so easy.  The hospital really needs to upgrade its firewall protection.

BRIDGET SLOWLY APPROACHES MICHELE.

BRIDGET:  What are you saying?

MICHELE TURNS AROUND AND FACES BRIDGET.

MICHELE:  Oh you’ve always been so…incredibly…stupid.
BRIDGET:  Not when it comes to you.
MICHELE:  Yeah…you are.
BRIDGET:  People think that you’re sweet little Michele; doing the right thing by getting help from Dr. Bingham.  I know it’s all for show.  Deep down you’re really evil and you’re trying to make me look bad.
MICHELE:  Is it working?  I’d say it is.  Dad, mom and grandma Donna are pleading with you to talk to Dr. Bingham aren’t they?  I’m doing the right thing.
BRIDGET:  And it’s not real!
MICHELE:  And neither is your chlamydia.
BRIDGET:  What?  That makes no sense.
MICHELE:  Oh but it makes perfect sense Bridget.  It was the perfect way to make you look really…really bad.

BRIDGET STARTS SWEATING.

BRIDGET:  You’ve done enough of that, and it’s not gonna last.  People are gonna see what an evil bitch you are.
MICHELE:  So how did you get a S.T.I. without sleeping with anyone else?  If Cory is the only person you’ve ever slept with…
BRIDGET:  He is!
MICHELE:  Then how could you have possibly gotten chlamydia stupid?  Did you ever consider the possibility that…you might not have it all?
BRIDGET:  My doctor ran the tests three times.  It wasn’t a mistake.
MICHELE:  That’s because…I made it happen.
BRIDGET:  What?

MICHELE WALKS CLOSER TO BRIDGET AND STOPS RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER.

MICHELE:  The security breach at the hospital?   Hello?
BRIDGET:  That was…that was you?  You…tampered with my test.
MICHELE:  And your test was negative.

BRIDGET’S BREATHING BECOMES LABORED.

BRIDGET:  You…you?   I…
MICHELE:  You don’t have chlamydia, but I accomplished my goal.  Cory broke up with you, and mom certainly doesn’t trust you.

MICHELE WALKS BY BRIDGET BUT BRIDGET GRABS ON TO MICHELE’S SHIRT AS SHE SLIPS TO THE GROUND.

BRIDGET:  How…could…you?  I…I can’t breathe!

BRIDGET TRIES TO TAKE OUT HER CELL PHONE BUT SHE’S TOO WEAK.  HER FACE IS TURNING RED AS SHE STRUGGLES FOR EACH BREATH AS SHE FALLS ON THE GROUND.

MICHELE:  Oh now you suddenly can’t breathe?  Stop faking!

BRIDGET STOPS STRUGGLING AS SHE BECOMES UNCONSCIOUS.

MICHELE:  Bridget?

MICHELE SQUATS DOWN AND LOOKS AT BRIDGET, WHO IS LYING ON THE GROUND UNRESPONSIVE.

PREVIOUSLY ON ANOTHER WORLD:

·         Charlie came into the hospital to talk to Dr. Mason about why she was not hired for the PR internship.  She began having stomach pains.  Lindsay found her and took her cousin Charlie to an exam room

·         Kirkland is wrestling with telling the truth to his wife Charlie about his affair with Eric Stenbeck.

·         Bridget McKinnon was recently diagnosed with chlamydia, but she really does not have the disease.  Her twin sister, Michele, switched Bridget’s tests with someone else’s.  Cory Hutchins broke up with Bridget after he tested negative for chlamydia.

PART 1
Charlie Winthrop Harrison

Lindsay Winthrop

DR. DAVIDSON:  Well it’s definitely something can cause nausea.
CHARLIE:  Okay.  I guess you can give me an antacid and I can go home.
DR. DAVIDSON:  It’s not gonna be quite that simple Mrs. Harrison.
CHARLIE:  Why?  Is it something more serious?
DR. DAVIDSON:  No.  Not even close.  As a matter of fact congratulations are in order.
LINDSAY:  Oh my God.
CHARLIE:  Are you…are you about to tell me that I’m…
DR. DAVIDSON:  Yep…you’re pregnant.  Congrats again.
LINDSAY:  You hear that Charlie.  You’re pregnant.  You and Kirkland are gonna be parents.  That’s wonderful!  You don’t…seem all that enthused.
CHARLIE:  Oh I am believe me.  Today has been so loaded.  That was the last thing I was expecting.
LINDSAY:  Well you gotta go home and tell Kirkland.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AT THE CENTER, VICKY IS SITTING AT A TABLE WITH HER SONS KIRKLAND AND STEVEN
Vicky Hudson

Kirkland Harrison

Dr. Steven Frame

KIRKLAND:  Mom all you were doing was trying to protect your marriage.
STEVEN:  It takes two to break up a relationship.  It wasn’t all your fault.
VICKY:  I should have trusted Jake more.  I should have…had faith in our love for each other.
STEVEN:  It’s water under the bridge now.  You and Jake had a great life together.
VICKY:  You know I…look at both of you…how close you two have always been.  I just wish your sisters would be the same way.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AT THE CORYS, RACHEL IS IN THE LIVING ROOM ON HER LAPTOP WHEN CORY WALKS IN.
Rachel Hutchins

Cory Hutchins

RACHEL:  Hi sweetheart.  Are you headed out?
CORY:  Yeah gonna go for a run on the grounds.
RACHEL:  Okay be safe.

CORY TURNS AROUND TO WALK AWAY.

RACHEL:  Honey are you gonna be able to join us for dinner tonight?
CORY:  Yeah I guess I…I will.
RACHEL:  That’s great.  I think it’ll make you feel better to be around family.
CORY:  Okay. I’ll be back.

CORY WALKS THROUGH THE FOYER AND OPENS THE FRONT DOOR.
Michele McKinnon

CORY:  Michele.
MICHELE:  Hi uh.  Looks like you’re headed out.
CORY:  Yeah I’m gonna go for a run.  Lizzie’s not here.
MICHELE:  I didn’t come to see Elizabeth.  I came to see you.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BACK AT THE CENTER, VICKY CONTINUES HER CONVERSATION WITH STEVEN AND KIRKLAND…

VICKY:  All they do is fight.  I don’t know how much worse it’s gonna get.
KIRKLAND:  I wonder the same thing.  When we were at the hospital when Aunt Marley had her baby I had to break them up.
STEVEN:  So I take it Bridget isn’t seeing Dr. Bingham.
VICKY:  As far as I know she isn’t.  Michele is and she says it’s really helped her.
STEVEN:  That’s good.  I’m glad to hear that.  Dr. Bingham is an excellent psychiatrist.
VICKY:  You can lead the horse to the water.
KIRKLAND:  Mom you…you are kinda hard on Bridget though.
VICKY:  I am not.
STEVEN:  He’s got a point.
VICKY:  No I just think that she should take responsibility for her actions.  I can’t believe that everybody wants to coddle her even after all that she’s done.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AT DONNA’S SUITE, BRIDGET IS IN THE LIVING ROOM SITTING ON THE COUCH WHEN DONNA WALKS IN.
Donna Love
Bridget McKinnon

DONNA:  How long are you going to sit around and be sad about Cory?
BRIDGET:  How can you even ask me that?  I mean weren’t you said when you broke up with grandpa?
DONNA:  Excuse me young lady.  We are not talking about my love life.  I’m trying to help you get out of these doldrums.
BRIDGET:  Cory just…dumped me like I was yesterday’s garbage.
DONNA:  He thinks that you cheated on him.
BRIDGET:  I didn’t!

DONNA SITS NEXT TO BRIDGET ON THE COUCH.

DONNA:  I think…I think it’s good that this happened.
BRIDGET:  Oh my God really?
DONNA:  You may not feel that way right now but…if Cory really loved you, he would not have just ended things that abruptly.  He would have believed you like we do.
BRIDGET:  Mom doesn’t.
DONNA:  I don’t know what Victoria’s problem is.
BRIDGET:  She just thinks the worst of me all the time.
DONNA:  Well sweetheart, you have to try to move on okay.  You’re still young.  There are plenty of other seals in the sea.
BRIDGET:  Fish, grandma.  It’s fish.
DONNA:  Whatever.  Maybe you should go for a walk in the park or something.  All of us could use some fresh air at one time or another right?
BRIDGET:  I guess so.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

STEVEN:  You’ve kind of…favored Michele over Bridget.
VICKY:  I can’t believe you two are sitting here telling me this!   Are you suggesting that I love Michele more than I love Bridget?

CAMERA PAN ON VICKY…SLOW FADE TO THEME SONG

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

KIRKLAND:  No of course not mom.
STEVEN:  It comes across that way.
VICKY:  So now you’re saying I was a bad mother to my daughters.
STEVEN:  You’re taking this way out of proportion.
VICKY:  I must have been, I mean, look who you’re dating.
STEVEN:  Joy has nothing to do with this.
VICKY:  Of course she does.  They say men date women that are most like their mother.  I mean I was…a schemer back in the day, and Joy’s the same way.
KIRKLAND:  Mom---
STEVEN:  No let her talk.  She’s finally realizing why she’s so against my relationship with Joy, but she’s failing to correlate this to the way she feels about Bridget.
VICKY:  Joy Kramer is going to hurt you.  You could do a lot better than her.

VICKY GETS UP AND PUSHES HER CHAIR TO THE TABLE.

VICKY:  I’ve heard it all before.  Bridget is just like me and yada yada yada.  Whatever consequences Bridget suffers, she brings on herself.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BACK AT THE CORY ESTATE, CORY AND MICHELE ARE OUTSIDE AT THE FRONT DOOR.

MICHELE:  I…heard about what happened to Bridget.  My mom told me.
CORY:  Yeah.  She cheated on me.
MICHELE:  I’m so sorry.  I know you two have gotten so much closer, especially since you thought I was dead.
CORY:  She felt tremendous guilt over what happened at the prom.
MICHELE:  Look I…I didn’t come here to talk about Bridget.  I came to see how you were doing.  I know it must be difficult to deal with.
CORY:  I mean I never thought in a million years that your sister would cheat on me.
MICHELE:  Well, after what happened at the prom, you know she’s capable of just about anything.
CORY:  I should have known about that.  You know your grandmother came by.
MICHELE:  Really?  What did she say?
CORY:  She said some mean things to me.
MICHELE:  Are you serious?
CORY:  She actually thought I was the one who gave Bridget chlamydia.
MICHELE:  Did you get tested?
CORY:  Yeah I was negative.
MICHELE:  Oh.
CORY:  Yeah Donna and my mom got into an argument.
MICHELE:  Wow I…I had no idea.
CORY:  She blamed me for you and your sister fighting.
MICHELE:  Well you and I both know that’s not the case.
CORY:  You know I wish it could go back to the way it was when we were kids.  You and Bridget were practically inseparable.
MICHELE:  We…were at one point.  But those days are over.
CORY:  Yeah I…guess.  Maybe Donna was right.  Maybe I’m the reason that you two are fighting.  I never meant for any of that.

MICHELE PUTS HER RIGHT HAND ON CORY’S LEFT ARM.

MICHELE:  No don’t you say that.  You are not responsible for Bridget and what she did, and you’re definitely not responsible for her getting chlamydia.  She brought this all on herself.

CORY NODS HIS HEAD.  CORY POINTS HIS THUMB OVER HIS RIGHT SHOULDER.

CORY:  I’m gonna…go for my run.
MICHELE:  Okay.  Listen…I’m here for you okay.  If you need someone to talk to.
CORY:  You got it.

THEY HUG AND CORY GOES TO MICHELE’S LEFT AS MICHELE FACES THE FRONT DOOR OF THE CORYS.  SHE SMILES, THEN SUDDENLY, BRIDGET EMERGES FROM BEHIND.

BRIDGET:  You just couldn’t wait to get your hands on him could you?

MICHELE TURNS AROUND AND FACES BRIDGET.

AT THE CENTER, KIRKLAND IS SITTING AT A TABLE AND FLASHES BACK TO A CONVERSATION HE HAD WITH GRANT (EPISODE 283)
Kirkland Harrison
GRANT:  My God...son...I love you more than anything else in this world.  I don’t want to see you...end up like me. Affairs; failed marriages.  I’m alone. I got here because I lied; because I didn’t tell the truth.
KIRKLAND:  Dad I can’t tell Charlie that I slept with Eric!
GRANT:  You’re gonna have to do something different than I did.  Parents want better for their children than they had, and I want better for you son.  You need to be honest with Charlie.
KIRKLAND:  I’d...I’d lose her.  She finds out that I’m…
GRANT:  Gay? Say it Kirkland!
KIRKLAND:  I’m not gay!
GRANT:  Your marriage is like death by a thousand paper cuts.  Every day you don’t tell Charlie the truth, you make another slit...slowly killing your relationship.
KIRKLAND:  That would never happen if you helped me get rid of Eric.
GRANT:  I’m not going to engage in any criminal activity where Eric Stenbeck is concerned.  You can fix it.
KIRKLAND:  I’m not telling Charlie about that!
GRANT:  I won’t participate in your deception!
GRANT WALKS UP TO KIRKLAND AND PLACES HIS HANDS ON KIRKLAND’S SHOULDERS.
GRANT:  Son…I want you to do better than I did.  Tell…her…the…truth.

KIRKLAND FLASHES BACK TO THE PRESENT AS STEVEN SITS ACROSS FROM HIM.
Dr. Steven Frame

STEVEN:  Wow you’re…a million miles away.  What’s up little brother?
KIRKLAND:  Man I…I can’t hold this in anymore.

STEVEN FOCUSES ON KIRKLAND WITH CONCERN.

STEVEN:  Oh you’re thinking about…telling Charlie the truth.
KIRKLAND:  I went to my dad to help me…I can’t believe I’m even telling you this.  I went to my dad to help me get rid of Eric.
STEVEN:  You what?  Kirkland you can’t do that man!
KIRKLAND:  Don’t worry.  Dad refused to help me.  And you know what I…I can’t even be mad at him.
STEVEN:  I have to tell you that does come as a bit of a surprise.
KIRKLAND:  He said…he told me to tell Charlie what I did.
STEVEN:  Wow…another surprise.
KIRKLAND:  It’s like it’s eating me up from the inside.
STEVEN:  Yeah I’m sorry about that.
KIRKLAND:  Wow no psychobabble speak?
STEVEN:  Come on man don’t be like that.
KIRKLAND:  Do you think my marriage is gonna survive this?  Do you think Charlie would ever forgive me?
STEVEN:  I can’t…I can’t really say.  She might not have too much of a difficult time with your deeds, but the lying; the deception, yeah.  That might take her some time to get past…if she ever gets past it.

VICKY WALKS UP TO THEM.
Vicky Hudson

VICKY:  Get past what?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AT THE HOSPITAL, CHARLIE WINTHROP IS OUTSIDE OF DR THOMASINA MASON’S OFFICE AS SHE IS HAVING A HEATED CONVERSATION WITH DR. RUSS MATTHEWS…
Dr. Russ Matthews
Charlie Winthrop Harrison

Dr. Thomasina Mason

RUSS:  It’s more than a GPA Dr. Mason.
THOMASINA:  Of course it is.
RUSS:  What about her rotations and residencies?
THOMASINA:  The doctors she worked under recommended her white counterparts.  I felt for her.  We would meet in coffee shops and I would reassure her that she will find what she’s  looking for, and I said to myself that I would make a difference; I will not let one more black person go through what Deborah Boswell went through.
RUSS:  What are you saying?   That you didn’t hire Charlie Harrison for the Public Relations internship because she was white?

THOMASINA TURNS BACK AND FACES RUSS.

THOMASINA:  You’re damned right!

MEANWHILE, CHARLIE IS OUTSIDE AND HAS JUST HEARD WHAT THOMASINA HAS TOLD RUSS.  SHE STUMBLES AWAY FROM THE DOOR IN SHOCK, THEN SHE GRIMACES IN PAIN AND BENDS OVER WITH HER HAND ON HER STOMACH.  SHE SUPPORTS HERSELF ON A BEAM TO HOLD HERSELF AND LINDSAY COMES OVER.

LINDSAY:  Charlie?  Charlie what’s wrong?
CHARLIE:  I’m…I’m fine.
LINDSAY:  Obviously you’re not.  Let’s go to an exam room.

PART 2

RUSS:  I can’t believe you would even admit that.
THOMASINA:  You wanted the truth, and you got it.  What are you gonna do?  Tell the board.
RUSS:  I have a lot of pull with the board.
THOMASINA:  It would be your word against mine.  It’s only you and me here, and judging from the way you came in here, I don’t think you recorded this conversation.
RUSS:  I have rounds but before I leave, I have a question for you.
THOMASINA:  And what is that?
RUSS:  You say that those hospitals didn’t hire your friend because she was black.  Didn’t you just do the same thing to Charlie Harrison?
THOMASINA:  Are you accusing me of something Dr. Matthews?
RUSS:  You said that Deborah Boswell was racially discriminated against.  Didn’t you just do that to Charlie?
THOMASINA:  No I didn’t.  Charlie…didn’t deserve…that I chose KC over her.  She’s a nice girl, but neither did Deborah, and many other blacks, to not be chosen for jobs that were given to less qualified white candidates.  Now you can get the hell out of my office.

AT THOMASINA’S HOUSE, SOMEONE RINGS THE DOORBELL AND JOY ANSWERS IT.  IT’S DANA KRAMER.
Dana Kramer

DANA:  Hey you look nice. May I come in?
JOY:  Yeah yeah come in.

JOY IS WALKING AWAY FIXING HER EARRING AS DANA WALKS IN AND SHUTS THE DOOR.

DANA:  You look nice.  You headed somewhere?
JOY:  Actually I am.  Steven and I are going to dinner at his grandmother’s.
DANA:  Which one?
JOY:  Rachel Hutchins.
DANA:  Oh okay that’s great that’s great.
JOY:  So what brings you by?
DANA:  I haven’t heard from you so I thought I’d come and check on my sister.
JOY:  So youuuuu…have nothing else to do?
DANA:  Ouch you’re mean.
JOY:  I didn’t mean it like that.  I’m saying…go out on a date.  Meet a nice man.  Get some.  Know what I mean?
DANA:  Are you trying to say that I can’t get a man?
JOY:  No that’s not what I’m saying at all.
DANA:  I’m happy that my younger sister is happy with her man.
JOY:  Don’t worry about me.  I’m happy.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

STEVEN:  You know what we were just…talking about you mom.
KIRKLAND:  Yeah…yeah we were.
VICKY:  Oh is that right?
KIRKLAND:  We were remembering the good old days you know?
STEVEN:  Yeah those times where you, Jake and Kirkland and I were all living room before you sent me to Paris.
VICKY:  Yeah…yeah those times.
KIRKLAND:  We were really happy.
VICKY:  Just because he and I aren’t…married anymore doesn’t mean that he doesn’t love you guys.
STEVEN:  I’m sorry mom…I didn’t mean to…
VICKY:  No no it’s okay.  I’ve learned from my split from Jake.  I…didn’t trust him.  I didn’t trust us.

KIRKLAND BEGINS TO LISTEN INTENTLY TO VICKY.

VICKY:  And because I didn’t trust him.  I knew that Lindsay was his biological daughter and I kept the truth from him and…it cost me my marriage.  Kirkland, learn from your mother’s mistake.

STEVEN AND KIRKLAND LOOK AT EACH OTHER.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AT THE HOSPITAL, CHARLIE IS IN AN EXAM ROOM WITH LINDSAY.  CHARLIE IS LYING DOWN ON THE BED AS LINDSAY STANDS VIGIL.

CHARLIE:  Linds you don’t have to wait.  It’s probably just…just really bad gas.
LINDSAY:  I’m gonna wait till Dr. Davidson comes back.  How long has this been going on?
CHARLIE:  It really intensified today.  My mom brought me a coffee and I just couldn’t drink it.  My stomach turned at the aroma.
LINDSAY:  And what happened earlier?
CHARLIE:  I went to see Dr. Mason about…about why she didn’t hire me for the P.R. internship and…the pains came again.
LINDSAY:  Well we’re gonna find out soon.

DR. DAVIDSON WALKS IN WITH A FOLDER.

DR. DAVIDSON:  Hi Charlie, Lindsay.  We have the test results.
LINDSAY:  I…I can leave.
CHARLIE:  No you can stay.  What’s wrong with me?  Is it gas?

ANOTHER WORLD 289 Russ and Thomasina's conflict escalates

Another World 289

Created by:  Irna Phillips and William J. Bell
Written by:  C. Nathaniel Richardson
Consultant:  A. Washington Beeby

In this episode:  Devin Hutchins, Lindsay Winthrop, Sharlene Hudson, Gregory Hudson, Frankie Frame, John Hudson, Thomasina Mason, Russ Matthews, Charlie Winthrop Harrison

PREVIOUSLY ON ANOTHER WORLD
  • Devin Hutchins bought land from Donna Love where the Harbor Club stood and is opening Club Freedom in its place.  Donna kissed Devin to make Michael jealous, but the kiss seems to have ignited something within them.  Donna later came to the club and Devin and Donna kissed again, but this time Lindsay Winthrop saw them.
  • Gregory Hudson was involved in a 3 car accident on Route 17, which has aggravated a previous back injury that he was paralyzed from.  To ease the pain, Gregory was prescribed painkillers.  Gregory has developed an addiction to painkillers and is now getting them off the streets.  A drug dealer has given him a heavily encrypted, black market website where Gregory can purchase synthetic drugs.
  • Frankie is looking into the background of Brianna Jameson, whom they think may be responsible for the attempts on Sharlene's life.
  • Dr. Thomasina Mason was named Chief of Staff at Bay City Medical Center.  Dr. Russ Matthews and Dr. John Hudson were not chosen.  Since then, Dr. Matthews has questioned some of Dr. Mason's decisions, and Dr. Mason has not taken kindly to this.  Dr. Mason accused Dr. Matthews of not wanting to report to a black woman.
  • Dr. Mason hired KC Burrell for a Public Relations internship instead of Charlie Winthrop Harrison.  Charlie decided to ask Dr. Mason why she was not hired, and now Charlie is overhearing the reason.

PART 1

AT THE CENTER, DEVIN IS ON HIS CELL PHONE.
Billy Flynn as Devin Hutchins

DEVIN:  They’re coming in what…fifteen minutes?  They weren’t supposed to be coming for another hour.  Alright I’ll be right there.

DEVIN PRESSES END CALL AND PUTS THE PHONE IN HIS POCKET, TURNS AROUND, AND SEES LINDSAY.
Kate Mansi as Lindsay Winthrop

DEVIN:  Hey.
LINDSAY:  Hey…uh…hi.  Looks like you’re in a bit of a hurry.
DEVIN:  I just got a call from the state inspectors.  They’re coming to the club for the final walkthrough.
LINDSAY:  Make sure you’re up to code?
DEVIN:  Yep.  After this, I’ll be able to open.
LINDSAY:  How exciting?  Club Freedom huh?
DEVIN:  Yeah.  Hopefully you’ll be able to come.  In fact, just text me and I’ll let you in the VIP Section.

LINDSAY FLASHES BACK TO SEEING DEVIN KISSING DONNA LOVE (EPISODE 284).

LINDSAY:  Don’t forget about my boyfriend.
DEVIN:  You drive a hard bargain.
LINDSAY:  Gregory’s an important part of my life.  If you let me in VIP, then you gotta let Gregory in, too.  In fact I…think I’m gonna ask him to move in with me.
DEVIN:  That’s…that’s great.  Well I’m gotta get to the club.
LINDSAY:  Okay good luck.
DEVIN:  And…both of you can come in VIP at the opening.
LINDSAY:  Thank you.

AT THE FARM, SHARLENE WALKS INTO THE LIVING ROOM WHILE GREGORY COMES DOWNSTAIRS.
Robert Scott Wilson as Gregory Hudson

Anna Holbrook as Sharlene Hudson

SHARLENE:  Hey sweetheart.
GREGORY:  I was just uh headed out.
SHARLENE:  Studying?
GREGORY:  Yeah that.  Where’s dad?
SHARLENE:  He had to work.  How’s your back?
GREGORY:  It’s feeling better.  Maybe it was just the residual effects from the accident.
SHARLENE:  Good I’m…I’m very happy to hear that you’re feeling better.
GREGORY:  Yeah that nurse helped me.
SHARLENE:  Nurse?  What nurse?
GREGORY:  Brianna.
SHARLENE:  What?

SHARLENE FOCUSES HER ATTENTION ON GREGORY.

SHARLENE:  How exactly did she help you?
GREGORY:  The other night.  When I went to the hospital.
SHARLENE:  What did she do?  Steal some painkillers out of the hospital cabinet?  You listen to me!  You stay the hell away from her!
GREGORY:  Why?  What’s going on?
SHARLENE:  We don’t have any proof yet but…she could be the one who has been trying to kill me.
GREGORY:  Are you serious?
SHARLENE:  And we think she could be connected to Taylor.
GREGORY:  Wow I’ll…do that.
SHARLENE:  Be careful out there.  If she tries to approach you or anything you let me and your father right away.
GREGORY:  I will.  I’m gettin’ outta here.

FRANKIE APPEARS.
Alice Barrett Mitchell as Frankie Frame
FRANKIE:  That may not be the case.
SHARLENE:  What do you mean?
FRANKIE:  After we visited Maggie I did a full background check on her.  Brianna Jameson came up clean.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

AT THE HOSPITAL, JOHN IS SITTING AT HIS DESK LOOKING ON HIS OFFICE COMPUTER.  HE’S SCROLLING THROUGH AND HE NOTICES SOMETHING.

David Forsyth as Dr. John Hudson

JOHN (reading his email):  Reminder.  Appointment with urologist Dr. Stanley...today.

JOHN LOOKS AT THE POST IT NOTE ON HIS DESK WITH HIS PASSWORD “alwaysbemyson” WRITTEN ON IT.  HE IMMEDIATELY TEARS IT INTO FOUR PIECES AND TOSSES THEM INTO A WASTEBASKET.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Amelia Marshall as Dr. Thomasina Mason
Jed Allan as Dr. Russ Matthews

MEANWHILE, CHARLIE SLOWLY APPROACHES THE DOOR TO THOMASINA’S OFFICE, AND DECIDES TO LISTEN AS THE CONVERSATION BETWEEN RUSS AND THOMASINA ESCALATES.
Brittany Underwood as Charlie Winthrop Harrison

THOMASINA:  I only will consult on Mr. Graves’s treatment, not press releases.
RUSS:  You are clearly not qualified to run this hospital.
THOMASINA:  I’m sorry that you are still bitter over the board’s decision to choose me over you as Chief of Staff, but I have a theory as to why.
RUSS:  And what would that be?

THOMASINA FOLDS HER ARMS AND FACES RUSS.

THOMASINA:  Oh so you’re afraid to admit it, because I’m gonna say it.  You hate that you have to report to a black woman!

CHARLIE, WHO IS LISTENING OUTSIDE, OPENS HER MOUTH IN AMAZEMENT AFTER HEARING THOMASINA’S STATEMENT.

RUSS:  That’s the most ridiculous thing I ever heard!
THOMASINA:  Is it?
RUSS:  Are you accusing me of being a racist?
THOMASINA:  No Russ.  I don’t think you’re a racist, but even you have to admit there is institutionalized racism in a majority of corporations in this country.
RUSS:  That sounds cryptic.
THOMASINA:  I stood by and watched a friend of mine struggle to get work after she graduated with a 3.9 GPA from Medical School.  She’s a black woman, too.  I’m not gonna let any other person of color go through that as long as I am Chief of Staff.

CHARLIE STARTS TO LISTEN MORE INTENTLY OUTSIDE AS RUSS STARTS TO PIECE TOGETHER WHO THOMASINA IS TALKING ABOUT.

RUSS:  Who exactly are you referring to?  KC Burrell?

CAMERA PAN ON RUSS…SLOW FADE TO THEME SONG.

PART 2

AT THE HOSPITAL, JOHN IS IN AN EXAM ROOM AND DR STANLEY WALKS IN.

JOHN:  Thank you for meeting with me Dr. Stanley.
DR. STANLEY:  My pleasure.  You asked me to…run the sample you gave me and compare them to…
JOHN:  1991.
DR. STANLEY:  Believe me it wasn’t easy to have that archive dug up but they’re…they’re the same.
JOHN:  Low sperm count.
DR. STANLEY:  I’m afraid so.  The effects of Agent Orange left you sterile.
JOHN:  I was hoping that…my recent test results would be different from the old ones.
DR. STANLEY:  I’m sorry Dr. Hudson.  Have you told your wife?
JOHN:  No.  As far as she’s concerned…I am Gregory’s father.
DR. STANLEY:  Of course you are.  In every way that counts.  I think…maybe you should tell Sharlene.
JOHN:  No.  I’m never going to tell her.

IN THE LIVING ROOM, GREGORY IS ON HIS PHONE ON THE SATIN AVENUE BLACK MARKET WEBSITE TRYING TO ORDER SOME DRUGS, BUT HIS CREDIT CARD DECLINES.

GREGORY:  Damn!

GREGORY LOOKS DOWN AND SEES SHARLENE’S PURSE.  HE RUMMAGES THROUGH IT AND TAKES OUT HER CREDIT CARD.

GREGORY:  Sorry mom.

MEANWHILE SHARLENE AND FRANKIE ARE IN THE KITCHEN.

SHARLENE:  That’s impossible.
FRANKIE:  It’s like she never existed.
SHARLENE:  Well there’s got to be something out there that we can use against her.
FRANKIE:  That’s the problem.  Nobody has a record that clean.
SHARLENE:  No record of a school or a…a job.
FRANKIE:  The job at Bay City Medical Center and nursing school.
SHARLENE:  Brianna wasn’t born a few years ago though
FRANKIE:  There’s gotta be some kind of birth record or something.
SHARLENE:  It’s like she…doesn’t exist.
FRANKIE:  Wait a minute.  Maybe that’s it.  Brianna Jameson…might not be real.
SHARLENE:  If she’s not Brianna, then who is she, and how is she connected to Taylor Benson?
FRANKIE:  Did Taylor mention having any children?
SHARLENE:  Never.
FRANKIE:  Well I’ll keep digging.  I know we’re gonna get to the bottom of this.  If she’s the one trying to kill you, then we’re gonna stop her.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THOMASINA TURNS HER BACK TO RUSS AND TELLS HER STORY.

THOMASINA:  I have a friend…in California…an excellent doctor.  Deborah is a hard worker.  She worked harder than anyone in our class, which is why she got the GPA she did.  She put her all into her medical studies on top of being a wife and a mother.  We…stayed in touch after we graduated.  Many a nights she would call…and cry.  She had a such a difficult time finding work.  Now tell me why a black woman with a 3.9 GPA from medical school would end up running a non profit clinic in Santa Barbara when she could very well be the Chief of Staff at any hospital?
RUSS:  Maybe…maybe she wasn’t qualified.
THOMASINA:  Oh I looked into it.  The jobs she applied for went to candidates with lower GPAs than she had.
