In this episode:  Charlie Winthrop Harrison, Thomasina Mason, Cass Winthrop, Dana Kramer, Iris Spaulding, Vivien Gorrow, Jr., Devin Hutchins, Antonio Santierro, Brianna Jameson, Sharlene Hudson, Frankie Frame, Maggie Winthrop

PREVIOUSLY ON ANOTHER WORLD
  • Charlie was conflicted on whether to file a racial discrimination lawsuit against Bay City Medical Center
  • On an investigative trip to Springfield, Iris learned that she and Alexandra Spaulding were half sisters (Brandon Spaulding is their father)
  • Devin was forced by a mystery drug kingpin to allow him to use Devin's new club as a front for the operation.  Antonio also works for this drug kingpin
  • Sharlene and John have been desperate to try and connect Brianna to Taylor.  Brianna is really Ellen Benson, Taylor Benson's daughter.  Taylor died weeks ago, but her deathbed wish to her daughter was for her to "finish" Sharlene Hudson.
  • Before Cecile confirmed that Maggie was Cass's daughter, Maggie disowned her mother and changed her last name to Winthrop.  Brianna kidnapped Maggie to help Christy get leverage over Cass so Christy can get a sperm sample from Cass to get pregnant.  Maggie remembered that Brianna was her kidnapper, so Brianna kidnapped her again and locked her in the hospital freezer.

PART 1

Thomasina Mason

Cass Winthrop

AT THE HOSPITAL, CASS CONFRONTS THOMASINA…

CHARLIE WALKS UP AND SEES THEM FROM A SHORT DISTANCE, AND IS IN EARSHOT.
Charlie Winthrop Harrison

 CASS:  You discriminated against Charlie.
THOMASINA:  That’s a very serious accusation, of which you have no proof.
CASS:  If the hospital board got wind of it, they’d start digging.

DANA KRAMER NOTICES CASS AND THOMASINA AS WELL AND IS ALSO IN EARSHOT.  CHARLIE WALKS AWAY, AND DANA APPROACHES THEM.

Dana Kramer

DANA:  Don’t say another word Thomasina.   Cass may I ask why you’re questioning her?
CASS:  I’m just trying to get some answers.
DANA:  Answers to what questions?
CASS:  Why don’t I let Thomasina tell you that counselor?
DANA:  Well it sure looked like you were badgering her.
CASS:  I’ll be in touch with your superiors Thomasina.

CASS WALKS AWAY AND DANA TURNS TO THOMASINA.

DANA:  Do you mind telling what that was about?
THOMASINA:  Let’s go to my office.

-----------------------------------

Vivien Gorrow, Jr.

Iris Spaulding

AT IRIS’S SUITE, VIVIEN WALKS TO THE ELEVATOR DOUBLE DOORS AND IRIS EMERGES.

IRIS:  Don’t you have some work to do?
VIVIEN:  I need to go out annnnnd get some cleaning supplies.
IRIS:  Just don’t get any ideas about going to the Corys.
VIVIEN:  To the Corys.  I’m not like that.  We made a deal.  I work for you, I won’t tell Rachel anything.
IRIS:  Hurry back.  I’m not paying you to run around town.

IRIS GETS A CALL ON HER CELL PHONE.

IRIS:  Hello...what?   Oh my God…I’ll…I’m coming as soon as I can.

IRIS PRESSES END CALL.

VIVIEN:  What happened?   You look like you just got some bad news.
IRIS:  I did.  My sister died.  I have to go to Springfield.
VIVIEN:  Oh my God.  Are you talking about Amanda?
IRIS:  No.  Alexandra Spaulding.
VIVIEN:  I’m so sorry.  I’ll make sure that this place by the time you get back.
IRIS:  You don’t have to…clean anything.
VIVIEN:  You’re paying me to…
IRIS:  Don’t you wanna ride in a fancy car to Springfield?  I don’t want to go by myself.  Come with me.

 -----------------------------------

Antonio Santierro

Devin Hutchins

AT DEVIN’S CLUB, DEVIN LOOKS AROUND AND SMILES AS HIS CLUB IS COMPLETED. ANTONIO WALKS IN.

DEVIN: T what’s up?
ANTONIO: Nice place you got here.
DEVIN: We’re gonna open this week.
ANTONIO: What time do you want me come? I’m probably gonna be a little bit younger than the rest of your customers.
DEVIN: No you’re just about in their age range.
ANTONIO: We can make a killing.
DEVIN: You know I really don’t want to do this.
ANTONIO: I don’t either, but I gotta protect the ones I love. King has no problem coming after them or me
DEVIN: Yeah I found out the hard way.
ANTONIO: You know what happened to my mom right?
DEVIN: I know. They said they found her in the freezer.
ANTONIO: That’s what I’m afraid of. This guy’s ruthless.
DEVIN: Doesn’t sound like the style of a drug kingpin, especially when you haven’t posed any type of threat.
ANTONIO: I don’t wanna get on King Lear’s bad side. That’s why I just do what he says, even if I don’t want to.
DEVIN: I know he wants you at the opening. It’s a big opportunity, but you can’t get caught. I would lose the club quicker than I acquired it. About your mom, I’m thinking someone else locked her in that freezer.
ANTONIO: You really think so?
DEVIN: I mean if he wanted to hurt her to get to you, he would just send someone to do it, and he probably would hurt you instead of her. It just doesn’t make sense that he would have your mother locked in a hospital freezer.
ANTONIO: My mom doesn’t have any enemies. Who else would have done that to her?

 ----------------------
Brianna Jameson

IN FRONT OF BRIANNA’S APARTMENT, BRIANNA GETS A PHONE CALL.

BRIANNA: Hello.
V.O./PERSON ON PHONE: Hi is this Ellen Benson?
BRIANNA: This is Ellen.
V.O.: This is Ashley from Bright Woods Hospice. We have the last of your mother’s personal effects. If you’d like to come get them.
BRIANNA: Yes. I’ll be right there.

BRIANNA WALKS AWAY AND FROM AROUND THE CORNER WALL, SHARLENE EMERGES.

Sharlene Hudson

CAMERA PAN ON SHARLENE. SLOW FADE OUT. FADE IN TO THEME SONG.

-----------------------

PART 2

SHARLENE IS DRIVING, FOLLOWING BRIANNA, AND SUDDENLY HER CAR SLOWS DOWN.

SHARLENE: No. NO!

SHE PULLS OVER AND STOPS.

SHARLENE: This is crazy.

SHARLENE CALLS SOMEONE ON HER PHONE.

SHARLENE: Hey I… need some gas.

------------------------

MEANWHILE BRIANNA IS DRIVING HER CAR, LOOKS IN HER REARVIEW MIRROR, LOOKS AHEAD AND SMILES.

 -----------------------

IN THOMASINA’S OFFICE, THOMASINA IS SITTING AT HER DESK, WHILE DANA SITS ACROSS FROM HER.

DANA: You said that? How does Cass know?
THOMASINA: This is privileged right?
DANA: Of course it is.
THOMASINA: The only person I told was Russ Matthews.
DANA: Are you sure nobody else heard you?
THOMASINA: No. It was only Russ and me in my office.
DANA: The door wasn’t open or ajar or….
THOMASINA: I don’t know.
DANA: Maybe I’ll get Russ to tell me.
THOMASINA: Well the board doesn’t seem to know about it yet. They certainly would’ve notified me.
DANA: How it happened isn’t the most important thing.
THOMASINA: I didn’t intend for anyone to hear that. I certainly feel like I had a good reason.
DANA: I know exactly what you’re talking about, and I understand, but the law isn’t on your side.
THOMASINA: Do you think this is gonna go to court?
DANA: If Charlie decides to sue the hospital, the board is going to come after you, and I won’t lie to you… we’re gonna have a fight on our hands.

 ----------------------

AT CASS’S OFFICE, CHARLIE WALKS IN.

CASS: Hey. Welcome back. Twice in one day. To what do I owe the pleasure my dear?
CHARLIE: I wish this was a feel good visit.
CASS: Whoa. So you’ve… made a decision.
CHARLIE: I heard your conversation with Thomasina. She didn’t seem the least bit sorry for what she did.
CASS: Are you telling me to….?
CHARLIE: File the lawsuit.
CASS: Honey are you absolutely sure?
CHARLIE: Yes.
CASS: I’ll put it through.
CHARLIE: Thanks dad.
CASS: Anything for my girl.

-------------------------------

IN THE CAR, IRIS AND VIVIEN ARE RIDING IN THE BACKSEAT.

IRIS: I had no idea that she was sick.
VIVIEN: Maybe they didn’t want to worry you.
IRIS: I hadn’t met her until a few months ago.
VIVIEN: Why did it take so long?
IRIS: I was looking for someone else. Anyway, I came across her and she told me we were sisters.
VIVIEN: So Mac was her father, too?
IRIS: I was adopted.
VIVIEN: You and Alexandra have the same father.
IRIS: Bingo. Brandon Spaulding.
VIVIEN: Wow you must have a whole family down there in Springfield. Brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews.
IRIS: As a result of knowing that I’m Brandon Spaulding’s daughter, I have two sisters with the same name.
VIVIEN: So you have two sisters named Paulina?
IRIS: Noooo. Amanda.
VIVIEN: Amanda Cory and Amanda Spaulding. Interesting.
IRIS: Alexandra told me that our brother Alan died on a park bench. I have another sister Vicky. My nephew Phillip once tried to kidnap all of his children. My other nephew Alan-Michael is always feeling left out. Then there’s my great nieces Lizzie and Emma, and my great nephews Zach, James, and Nick.
VIVIEN: Are they cute?
IRIS: You’re the beholder.
VIVIEN: What are you talking about?
IRIS: You ever heard of the saying? Beauty…
VIVIEN: Beauty’s only skin deep?
IRIS: Never mind.

IRIS TURNS AND LOOKS OUT THE CAR WINDOW.

--------------------------------

OUTSIDE ON THE SIDE OF A ROAD, SHARLENE STANDS NEXT TO HER CAR AS FRANKIE BRINGS A GAS CAN.

Frankie Frame

FRANKIE:  This should help.

FRANKIE OPENS THE GAS CAP AND PUTS THE GAS CAN HOSE IN IT.

SHARLENE:  Thank you for coming.  I didn’t want to call John.  He would’ve freaked out.
FRANKIE:  And you think I’m not?  What the hell were you thinking trying to tail Brianna?
SHARLENE:  I have to find something on her.  She’s bound to make a mistake.
FRANKIE:  It could cost you your life if YOU make a mistake.
SHARLENE:  I think she siphoned the gas from my car.
FRANKIE:  Listen this should be enough for you to get to the nearest gas station.
SHARLENE:  Aren’t you gonna ask me if I found anything?
FRANKIE:  Oh my God you didn’t break into her apartment did you?
SHARLENE:  No of course not, but I did hear something.
FRANKIE:  You heard her lock the door.
SHARLENE:  Not exactly but I did hear her answer the phone.
FRANKIE:  That’s not unusual.
SHARLENE:  Maybe not, but what was a bit weird was when she answered the phone, she said her name was Ellen.

-------------------------

AT THE CLUB, ANTONIO AND DEVIN CONTINUE TO TALK.

DEVIN:  Does your mom have any enemies that you know of?
ANTONIO:  My mom’s not perfect but I can’t think of anyone who would want to kill her except for King Lear.
DEVIN:  I don’t know T.  I just don’t think it was him.  Someone went through the trouble of making your mother suffer by locking her in a freezer.
ANTONIO:  Someone who hates her.
DEVIN:  Whoever locked your mother in that freezer, they have a personal vendetta against her.

-------------------------

AT THE HOSPITAL, MAGGIE IS IN HER ROOM, LYING IN THE BED UNCONSCIOUS.

ANTONIO (v.o.):  There’s not much the police can do until she wakes up.

MAGGIE STARTS TO WIGGLE HER FINGERS ON HER RIGHT HAND AND OPENS HER EYES.
Maggie Winthrop

FREEZE FRAME ON MAGGIE’S RIGHT HAND.  SLOW FADE OUT.  END OF EPISODE 322

PREVIOUSLY ON ANOTHER WORLD
·         Charlie Winthrop Harrison alleges that Thomasina Mason didn’t hire her for the Public Relations Internship at Bay City Medical Center because she was white.  Thomasina hired KC Burrell instead.  Charlie sought legal advice from Cass.  Charlie was unsure about suing Bay City Medical Center for fear of racial fallout
·         Lily Mason returned to Bay City seeking forgiveness from her daughter, Joy Kramer.  Lily left Joy with Thomasina and Carter Todd to raise.

PART 1

Bryant Kramer

KC Burrell

BRYANT GOES INTO THE COFFEE SHOP AND KC STARTS TO HEAR LINDSAY AND CHARLIE’S CONVERSATION.

LINDSAY:  It’s a shame that you didn’t get that P.R. internship.
CHARLIE:  It is though.  Although I was clearly qualified to get it.  Probably more than the person who actually got the position.
LINDSAY:  You mean KC Burrell?

KC WALKS UP TO THEM.
Lindsay Winthrop

Charlie Winthop Harrison

KC:  That would be me.  I’m sorry that you think that I’m not qualified Charlie.
CHARLIE:  I didn’t…mean it like that.
KC:  Well how did you mean it?  I got the position fair and square.
CHARLIE:  I didn’t intend to imply that you weren’t qualified.
KC:  It sure sounded like that to me.
LINDSAY:  Charlie’s just a little confused as to why she didn’t get the internship.  You know it’s one of those things where you just think you have everything in the bag, and then you don’t.
KC:  It’s a great position.  I do enjoy although it does have its challenges.

BRYANT WALKS UP TO THEM.

BRYANT:  Here’s your latte.
KC:  Thank you.
BRYANT:  Hey Charlie.  Good to see you.
CHARLIE:  Hi.  Bryant right?
BRYANT:  Yes sir!
KC:  You guys know each other?
BRYANT:  The woman that raised me is her mother.  Frankie.
CHARLIE:  My mother raised you?
BRYANT:  Yeah she didn’t tell you?
CHARLIE:  No she…didn’t.  Did she raise you alone?

CHARLIE’S CELL PHONE RINGS AND SHE ANSWERS IT.

CHARLIE:  Hey hun…oh okay.  I can meet you.  Alright bye.

CHARLIE ENDS HER CALL.

CHARLIE:  I gotta go to the hospital.
LINDSAY:  Is everything okay?
CHARLIE:  Yeah.  That was Kirkland.  He told me that Bridget is going home and the family’s gonna meet up there.
LINDSAY:  I’m actually headed there, too.  Let’s go.
CHARLIE:  It was good to meet you KC.
KC:  Yeah.  Same here.
BRYANT:  We gotta catch up Charlie.
CHARLIE:  We sure do.

CHARLIE AND LINDSAY LEAVE.

KC:  I can’t believe she said what she said.   As if I wasn’t qualified to get the position.
BRYANT:  Are you talking about the internship?
KC:  I guess she was the only person who applied for the position.
BRYANT:  Look I’m…I’m sure it was just a misunderstanding.  I don’t think she meant it like that.  She didn’t even know that you were the one who got the job.
KC:  She just sounded so…
BRYANT:  Entitled?
KC:  Look I don’t wanna go down that rabbit hole with you.  No offense.

BRYANT SMILES.

BRYANT:  None taken.  Nice to meet you, even if it wasn’t under ideal circumstances.
KC:  Guess that’s the last coffee I’m gonna get from you huh?
BRYANT:  It doesn’t have to be.

THEY SMILE AT EACH OTHER.

----------------------------

AT PAULINA’S, JAKE IS KNOCKING ON THE DOOR.
Jake McKinnon

Paulina Cory

JAKE:  Paulina open up!

PAULINA OPENS THE DOOR WITH A WHITE TERRYCLOTH ROBE ON AND A TOWEL WRAPPED AROUND HER HAIR.

PAULINA:  You’re early.
JAKE:  You know we were bringing Bridget home today.
PAULINA:  Well I’m not ready yet as you can see.
JAKE:  Nothing I haven’t seen before.
PAULINA:  This is not time for jokes.  I’m trying to figure out what to wear.
JAKE:  We’re going to the hospital not the masquerade ball.
PAULINA:  Look I’ll be ready in a minute.

PAULINA GOES TO HER BEDROOM AND SHUTS THE DOOR.

JAKE:  I guess I’ll be here for an hour.

PAULINA OPENS THE BEDROOM DOOR.

PAULINA:  I heard that smart ass!

PAULINA SHUTS THE BEDROOM DOOR AGAIN.

--------------------------

AT THE HOSPITAL, THOMASINA IS IN HER OFFICE WITH LILY.  THOMASINA IS AT HER DESK AND LILY IS SITTING ACROSS FROM HER.

Lily Mason

Thomasina Mason

LILY:  I can’t believe you made me run those tests.  I have my doctors in California monitoring my condition.
THOMASINA:  Dr. Brackett?  Yes I talked to them.  He sent me your most recent results.  I wanted to see for myself.
LILY:  And what conclusions did you draw from it?
THOMASINA:  I don’t think you should go back to California.
LILY:  Look I can’t stay here.
THOMASINA:  Aunt Lily I have connections here.  I can get you into some clinical trials.
LILY:  It’s that bad?
THOMASINA:  Don’t look at it like that.
LILY:  I’m not gonna put my body through another round of chemo and radiation.  And now you’re suggesting a clinical trial.   God only knows what that’s gonna do to me.
THOMASINA:  It can’t be worse than what the cancer’s doing to you now Aunt Lily.  It’s like you’re throwing in the towel.  Don’t you want to get better?
LILY:  I’ve lived my life.  I lived a charmed life, but the best thing that ever happened to me, doesn’t want to forgive me.  I can die knowing that…I brought her in this world.

THOMASINA LOOKS UP AND SEES JOY.  LILY TURNS AROUND.

Joy Kramer

LILY:  Hi baby.
JOY:  Hi mom.  Can we talk?
THOMASINA:  I’ve…got rounds.

THOMASINA LEAVES THE OFFICE AND SHUTS THE DOOR.

LILY:  Look if you’re here to rail on me some more I really don’t wanna…
JOY:  I forgive you.

----------------------------

MEANWHILE, THOMASINA WALKS UP TO THE NURSE’S STATION AND CASS WALKS UP TO HER.

Cass Winthrop

CASS:  Hi Dr. Mason.
THOMASINA:  Cass.
CASS:  Can we talk privately?

THEY BOTH GO TO A SECLUDED CORNER AWAY FROM THE NURSE’S STATION.

THOMASINA:  What’s this about?
CASS:  About the internship.
THOMASINA:  What about it?
CASS:  I wanna know why my daughter was disqualified.
THOMASINA:  Disqualified?  Are you talking about a road race?
CASS:  This is no time to be facetious.  Charlie told me what you said, and I’m here to get your side of the story.

CAMERA PAN ON THOMASINA.  SLOW FADE OUT.  FADE IN TO THEME SONG

----------------------------

PART 2

LILY:  Maybe the cancer is affecting my hearing.  Did you just say…you forgive me?
JOY:  Yes…mom.  Whatever it is I’m holding on to is starting to…affect other areas of my life.
LILY:  Steven?
JOY:  We argued about it, and I walked out.
LILY:  Oh my God I hope you two didn’t break up.
JOY:  No.  We didn’t call it quits.  All I’m breaking up with now is my grudge.  You’re my mother.  I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you.
LILY:  You got that right.
JOY:  I hate that it took an illness to bring us together.

LILY WALKS UP TO JOY.

LILY:  I hope you understand that you would not have been safe with me, not the life that I was living.  Thank God Thomasina and Carter took you in.  You turned out just the way I thought you would if they raised you.

JOY’S EYES WELL UP.

JOY:  Can you…tell me why?  Why did you….choose the streets over me?  It’s like you didn’t even want me.
LILY:  You couldn’t be more wrong.
JOY:  Was I in the way of the life you wanted?
LILY:  Marshall promised me that he would fulfill his financial responsibilities once he got out of school.  I couldn’t provide the life that you needed baby!
JOY:  You could have left me with my father.

LILY TURNS AROUND WITH HER BACK FACING JOY.

LILY:  He wasn’t any more ready to be a father than I was to be a mother.  I did the right thing by you.  I left you with your cousin because I loved you.
JOY:  I’m…not trying to blame you.  I’m just trying to understand.  I guess I never really will.
LILY:  I did a real stupid thing, but you…you are the BEST thing that has ever happened to me.

LILY TURNS AROUND AND FACES JOY.

LILY:  I want you to have better than me.  You’re smart and you’re pretty.  You got a great man.
JOY:  I’ve made mistakes, too.
LILY:  We all have sweety.   Now come give your mama a hug.

THEY HUG.

-----------------------

PAULINA COMES OUT OF HER BEDROOM.

PAULINA:  How do I look?
JAKE:  Like you got blue jeans and a blouse on.
PAULINA:  You’re no help.
JAKE:  Damned if I do and damned if I don’t right?
PAULINA:  You’re supposed to tell a woman that she looks good.
JAKE:  Okay you look good.

PAULINA THROWS A COUCH PILLOW AT JAKE.

JAKE:  What was that for?
PAULINA:  You don’t even mean it.
JAKE:  It took you thirty minutes to put on a pair of jeans and a blouse.
PAULINA:  You were actually sitting here counting?
JAKE:  You said it would only take a minute.
PAULINA:  I know what I said but…
JAKE:  You took a whole half hour to put on an outfit just to go to the hospital.

THEY LOOK AT EACH OTHER FOR A FEW SECONDS.

PAULINA:  Well aren’t you ready to go?
JAKE:  Oh NOW you’re ready?

THEY LEAVE.

---------------------

THOMASINA:  My side of the story?  What the hell are you talking about?
CASS:  I think you know Dr. Mason.
THOMASINA:  So what exactly did your daughter tell you Cass?
CASS:  I did some digging into school records.  I compared Charlie’s and KC Burrell’s.  And then I went on the hospital website and read the qualifications on the position.
THOMASINA:  And what did you come up with?
CASS:  That according to the posting, and the records that I pulled, Charlie was the more qualified candidate, but yet you didn’t choose her, not because she didn’t meet the criteria.
THOMASINA:  What are you getting at?

CHARLIE WALKS UP AND SEES THEM FROM A SHORT DISTANCE, AND IS IN EARSHOT.

FREEZE FRAME ON DANA.  SLOW FADE OUT.  END OF EPISODE 321
