Jake appeals to Lindsay
Devin makes Donna an offer
Joy questions Thomasina

Billy Flynn as Devin Lucas Hutchins
LOVE MANSION...DONNA WALKS THROUGH THE FOYER TO THE FRONT DOOR AND OPENS IT…
Anna Stuart as Donna Love

DONNA:  Devin...come in.

DEVIN LOOKS STRAIGHT AHEAD AS HE WALKS INTO THE LIVING ROOM WITH DONNA FOLLOWING.

DONNA:  What brings you by?  I must say it’s strange seeing you here.

DEVIN STOPS AND LOOKS AROUND, THEN TURNS AROUND AND FACES DONNA.

DEVIN:  The famous Love Mansion.  I heard about this place.
DONNA:  Hmm I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing.
DEVIN:  Your father lived here right?
DONNA:  Can we please not bring that man up?
DEVIN:  Oh...sorry.  People have said the same about my father.
DONNA:  We will all miss him.  I was married to him way before you were born.
DEVIN:  I know.
DONNA:  I don’t think you came here to share memories of Carl.
DEVIN:  You’re right.  I didn’t.  I...want to talk about a piece of property that you own...by the water.
DONNA:  The Harbor Club?  There’s no club there now.  My father paid someone to burn it down.
DEVIN:  That’s unfortunate.  Are you planning on rebuilding?

DONNA LOOKS AT DEVIN QUIZZICALLY AND CROSSES HER ARMS.

DONNA:  Why?
DEVIN:  You can turn your loss into a gain.
DONNA:  You sound like a salesman.
DEVIN:  I appreciate the compliment but I’m not trying to sell you anything.  As a matter of fact, I’m looking to buy.
DONNA:  Buy what?  Wait...you wanna buy the land that the Harbor Club was on?
DEVIN:  Yep.  I promise I’ll offer you a fair price.
DONNA:  Well the land’s not for sale so forget it.

---------

AT BAY CITY MEDICAL CENTER, LINDSAY IS AT THE NURSE’S STATION WITH A CHART TALKING TO ONE OF THE NURSES.
Kate Mansi as Lindsay Winthrop

LINDSAY:  Mrs. Burns session went well.  She’s making a lot of progress.
NURSE:  I’ll let Dr. Hudson know.  She should be able to discharge soon.
LINDSAY:  That’s great news.

THE NURSE LEAVES WITH THE CHART.  LINDSAY TURNS AROUND AND SEES A WOMAN SITTING ON A CHAIR PLAYING WITH HER BABY, AND SHE PURSES HER LIPS IN SADNESS.  SHE TAKES A DEEP BREATH TO COMPOSE HERSELF, AND JAKE WALKS UP TO HER FROM HER RIGHT.
Tom Eplin as Jake McKinnon

JAKE:  Hey.
LINDSAY:  Umm...Jake hi.

JAKE LOOKS AT THE WOMAN WITH THE BABY AND THINKS QUICKLY…

JAKE:  You got a few minutes?  Let’s...go grab a bite or something.
LINDSAY:  My next patient isn’t due for another hour or so.  I’d like that.

LINDSAY SMILES.

-------

Denise Vasi as Joy Kramer
HOUSE...THOMASINA IS IN THE LIVING ROOM AND JOY WALKS IN WITH A SUITCASE.
Amelia Marshall as Thomasina Mason

THOMASINA:  I thought you’d never make it.
JOY:  A girl’s gotta pack all of her stuff.
THOMASINA:  I definitely understand that.
JOY:  Your room’s on the left upstairs.

JOY PLOPS ON THE COUCH.

JOY:  Can I take it up later?  I’m beat from the moving.
THOMASINA:  Yeah but don’t keep your stuff down here too long.  You know I don’t like a dirty house.
JOY:  Yes yes yes I know.
THOMASINA:  You know I was...glad that I was able to get in touch with Dana when I did.  I didn’t know Reginald was forcing you to do all of those other things.  I knew about the kidnapping but not the other stuff.

JOY SIGHS.

JOY:  I did what I had to do.  He was trying to kill you.  That’s what he does.  He goes after your loved ones to get you to do his bidding.
THOMASINA:  This town has had its share of evil people.
JOY:  They say Carl was, too.
THOMASINA:  Was?
JOY:  He...died the other night.  He had a brain tumor.  A lot of people were really sad about it.

THOMASINA IS SILENT FOR A FEW SECONDS.

THOMASINA:  Oh.
JOY:  There wasn’t a dry eye in the place.
THOMASINA:  That really surprises me.  The Carl I remember was a calculating, unscrupulous sociopath.
JOY:  You knew Carl?  I mean before he changed?
THOMASINA:  Know Carl?  I hated Carl.  People like that don’t change.  They modify their behavior, but their cores are still evil.  As far as I’m concerned he got what was coming to him.
JOY:  Why?  What happened?
THOMASINA:  My son had to grow up without his father because of Carl.  He killed my husband.
JOY:  Grant Todd?  Carl killed him?
THOMASINA:  Yes.
JOY:  Oh...I had no idea.  I’m sorry you had to go through that.
THOMASINA:  I don’t care what anyone else says.  Carl Hutchins was no saint in my eyes.

-----------

DEVIN:  I didn’t mean to just spring this on you.
DONNA:  More like dump.
DEVIN:  I think Bay City needs something new; something vibrant; something that gives...freedom.
DONNA:  And hypothetically speaking, if I sell you the land, and I’m not saying that I will, what do you plan to do with it?
DEVIN:  I wanna build a club of my own.
DONNA:  Wow that’s original.  Replacing one club with another.  Why should I sell you the rights to the land just to put another club on it?
DEVIN:  This town needs a...younger touch to it.
DONNA:  Excuse me?  Are you calling me old?
DEVIN:  No...no that’s not what I meant.  I meant that...the Harbor Club catered to an older, upscale crowd.
DONNA:  And just what kind of crowd is your club going to cater to?  Younger people?  We old people don’t count?
DEVIN:  You’re misunderstanding what I’m saying.

MICHAEL WALKS INTO THE LIVING ROOM AND DONNA WALKS UP TO HIM.
Kale Browne as Michael Hudson

DEVIN:  Hello Michael.
MICHAEL:  Devin Lucas.  What are you doing here?
DONNA:  He wants to buy the land that the Harbor Club was on.  How ridiculous is that?
MICHAEL:  Donna that may not be such a bad idea.

DONNA LOOKS AT MICHAEL WITH AMAZEMENT…
CAMERA PAN ON DONNA...SLOW FADE TO THEME SONG.

---------

AT THE CENTER, JAKE AND LINDSAY SIT ACROSS FROM EACH OTHER AT ONE OF THE TABLES…

LINDSAY:  I’m sorry about what happened with Vicky.  I somehow feel it’s my fault.
JAKE:  It’s definitely not your fault.
LINDSAY:  I mean if I hadn’t come to town looking for you, maybe you guys could have worked things out.  My mom begged me not to tell you.
JAKE:  We don’t have to rehash that whole situation.
LINDSAY:  I didn’t wanna lie to you.  Bridget still hates me because I didn’t tell the truth.
JAKE:  That’s...kind of why I came to see you.  I don’t really wanna talk about Vicky and the divorce.
LINDSAY:  Is it about Bridget and Michele?
JAKE:  Look I...I want you to be a part of their lives...our lives.  At Kirkland and Charlie’s wedding I said that I wanted to build a relationship and I meant it.
LINDSAY:  I understand.  You’ve had a lot going on since that time.
JAKE:  We all need you Lindsay...your sisters especially.
LINDSAY:  I mean I don’t know how to approach them.
JAKE:  I need you to...bond with the girls.  They need their older sister, and I need my eldest daughter.
LINDSAY:  This is...quite an adjustment.  I always thought of Derek as my dad growing up.  Then I find out you’re my dad.
JAKE:  I want you to feel like you have family here.
LINDSAY:  I got my mom, Cass, Charlie, Frankie.
JAKE:  More than them.  You’re part of your dad’s family, too you know?

LINDSAY SMILES.

LINDSAY:  That’s really sweet.
JAKE:  I’m serious.  You can come to me for anything.  I was thrilled to know that I had another child.
LINDSAY:  You really...cheered me up after…
JAKE:  You saw that woman in the hospital with her baby.
LINDSAY:  I’m...you know what.  I’m not gonna focus on that.  I can have children other ways.
JAKE:  That’s the McKinnon in you.  Bouncing back.
LINDSAY:  I’m gonna get back to the hospital.

THEY BOTH STAND.

JAKE:  Give your old man a hug.

LINDSAY AND JAKE EMBRACE, AND FROM A SHORT DISTANCE, MICHELE SEES THEM.

---------------

JOY:  Wow.  How...did it happen?
THOMASINA:  He ingested some poison by accident.  Carl was actually trying to kill someone else, but he offed my husband instead.
JOY:  Have you...forgiven him for it?
THOMASINA:  A long time ago.  To carry around that hatred wasn’t good for my son.  I let it go for him mostly.
JOY:  I never ever knew you were carrying this around.  Such a painful memory.
THOMASINA:  Yeah...but I’m pretty much over it.
JOY:  So why did you come back to the city where your husband died?

---------------

MICHAEL:  Well you weren’t planning on rebuilding anyway were you?
DONNA:  No but…
MICHAEL:  So then what are you holding on to?  Rid yourself of the property taxes.
DEVIN (smiling):  Listen to the man.
DONNA:  I reopened the Harbor Club.  I poured my heart into that.
MICHAEL:  I know dear, but Devin is willing to take it off of your hands.  I think you should sell.

DONNA LOOKS BACK AND FORTH AT MICHAEL AND DEVIN.

DONNA:  Well alright.  I’ll ask Cass to draw up the papers.
DEVIN:  I knew you’d make the right decision.

SUDDENLY DEVIN GRABS HIS HEAD.

DONNA:  Devin?  Are you alright?
DEVIN:  Wow...headache.

DEVIN COLLAPSES ONTO THE COUCH.

DONNA:  Oh my God.  Michael call 9-1-1.

PART 1
BAY CITY CENTER

KC LOOKS AT HER CELL PHONE AND THE TIME IS 6:08PM.  SHE IS SITTING AT A TABLE WHEN SOMEONE PUTS SOMETHING IN FRONT OF HER FACE.  SHE LOOKS UP AND SEES ERIC..
Jason Shane Scott as Eric Stenbeck
Sal Stowers as KC Burrell

KC:  A dandelion?
ERIC:  Look I would’ve gotten a bouquet of carnations but I didn’t have time to stop.  I didn’t wanna be super late.
KC:  Um hm.
ERIC:  I’m still late right?

KC SMILES

KC:  I guess I’ll let this one slide.
ERIC:  Eight minutes.
KC:  Late is late, but yeah, I’ll let this one go.  Don’t do it again.

THEY SMILE AT EACH OTHER, and ERIC LEANS IN AND KISSES HER.

KC:  It’s ten after now.
ERIC:  Let’s go.

ERIC PUTS HIS ARM AROUND KC AND THEY WALK SLOWLY AWAY.

----------
Anna Stuart as Donna Love

Ellen Wheeler as Marley Hudson Montgomery
AT THE MONTGOMERY’S, MARLEY IS HOLDING HER INFANT SON ROMAN IN HER ARM WHILE SHE WALKS TO THE DOOR.  SHE ADJUSTS TO FREE HER RIGHT HAND AND OPENS THE DOOR.

MARLEY:  Donna.
DONNA:  Hi I hope I didn’t come at a bad time.
MARLEY:  Of course not.  Come in.

DONNA TURNS HER ATTENTIONS TO ROMAN.

DONNA:  Look at youuuuu.  My little grandbaby.  He’s so cute.
MARLEY:  He’s adorable isn’t he?  So innocent.
DONNA:  Yes he is.  He sure is.

DONNA POKES HER FINGER OUT AND AFFECTIONATELY TOUCHES THE BABY’S NOSE AS THEY WALK TO THE COUCH AND SIT DOWN AS MARLEY GENTLY ROCKS HER BLANKET WRAPPED BABY.

MARLEY:  He seems to like it when mommy rocks him.  It’s so much fun getting to know him.
DONNA:  I can imagine.  I didn’t have that chance with you and Victoria.  I don’t have to tell you what my father did.  He took my chance at motherhood away from me.  I never really got the chance to raise you and your sister.
MARLEY:  And that’s why I’m gonna stay close to my baby.  I promise you...Reginald’s not gonna take him away from me.  Try as he might.
DONNA:  None of us are gonna let that happen honey.  I say what I said because...you know Victoria and Jake are officially divorced.
MARLEY:  Oh...oh...is she okay?
DONNA:  Okay as she’s gonna get.

DONNA STANDS UP AND PACES IN FRONT OF MARLEY AS MARLEY HOLDS HER BABY.  SHE STOPS AND TURNS TO FACE MARLEY.

DONNA:  Marley.
MARLEY:  Something’s on your mind?  Are you that broken up over Jake and Vicky’s divorce?
DONNA:  I really don’t know how to feel about it to be perfectly honest.
MARLEY:  I’m...thinking something else.  I can’t help but sense that some part of you...is relieved.
DONNA:  How can you say something like that?  I didn’t want this to happen to Victoria.  I don’t want any of my girls to be unhappy.
MARLEY:  So you’re not relieved that Jake and Victoria are split up?  They have been through hell, and it’s over.  Vicky can finally move on from him...so can the rest of us.
DONNA:  Marley what are you trying to say?  They loved each other.  They had twins together.
MARLEY:  I wonder if...Vicky was second choice.  A consolation prize.
DONNA:  Marley don’t you ever talk like that about your sister?
MARLEY:  Let’s face the truth here.  Everything changed after...
DONNA:  After Jake raped you.

--------------
Jensen Buchanan as Vicky Hudson

Tom Eplin as Jake McKinnon
PI FIRM...JAKE AND VICKY GET INTO A SERIOUS TALK….

JAKE:  Shane?  Shane Roberts?  What the hell has he got to do with this?  He’s dead!
VICKY:  And that’s what you wanted right?
JAKE:  How can you say something like that?
VICKY:  You put our lives in danger that night.  Shane and my uncle Martin died because of you!
JAKE:  What the hell are you talking about?
VICKY:  So you’re telling me that you didn’t want Shane dead?
JAKE:  I’m not understanding what Shane has to do with your trust issues.
VICKY:  I didn’t trust you because you didn’t trust in our marriage.
JAKE:  You cheated on me.
VICKY:  I never slept with him.
JAKE:  You wanted to though.  You cheated emotionally.  You married me knowing you were in love with Shane!  Now tell me why I should have trusted you after that!
VICKY:  Because you owed me!  You owed all of us!
JAKE:  Owed you?

VICKY TURNS AROUND, FACING AWAY FROM JAKE AS SHE RECALLS…

VICKY:  Marley came to me that night.  I had never ever seen her like that.  I remember it like it was yesterday.  The light had been drained from her.  Her spirit was broken.  It’s like someone…

VICKY TURNS BACK AROUND TO FACE JAKE.

VICKY:  Took something from her!  I knew you had something to do with it, and it turned out I was right.
JAKE:  Are you kidding me?  You’ve been holding that against me all this time?  Our whole marriage has been a debt you’ve been collecting on?

CAMERA PAN ON VICKY...SLOW FADE TO THEME SONG.

PART 2

BAY CITY CENTER
ERIC AND KC ARE WALKING TOWARD A TABLE SLOWLY

KC:  I told you I was bad at miniature golf.
ERIC: Still it took you six times to putt the ball in the hole.
KC:  I guess I didn’t have beginner’s luck.

ERIC PUTS HIS ARMS AROUND KC

KC:  That dandelion was really cute.
ERIC:  Like you.

ALLEN:  That motha...
TONI:  Don’t do it.
ALLEN:  You want me to stand here and watch that sleazeball kiss my daughter?
TONI:  She’s not a teenager, and besides going off is not gonna get her away from him.
ALLEN:  So whatchu wanna do?  Play it by the book?
TONI:  We can’t force KC to do what we want.
ALLEN:  The hell I can’t.  You and I both know that’s he’s gonna hurt her.
TONI:  You think I don’t feel helpless?  You think I like seeing her fall for this guy? ALLEN:  Then what do you plan to do about it?
TONI:  I’ve already tried.  I ran a check on him, and he comes up clean.
ALLEN:  The rules you have to follow are not gonna get Eric away from her.
TONI:  We’re gonna need...look I’m not getting into this.  I’m not doing things your way.
ALLEN:  So you wanna wait until he does something to her?
TONI:  Look I know what you’re thinking and you better be careful.
ALLEN:  I’m gonna do what I have to do to convince her that he’s not right for her.
TONI:  Don’t do anything stupid, or you’re gonna end up in jail.  You’ll probably call one of your family members to bail you out.

------------

MARLEY:  I didn’t say that.
DONNA:  You were thinking it though.
MARLEY:  It happened a long time ago, and that, or anything else he’s done, has no bearing on how I feel about Jake now.  I think he was a wonderful husband to Vicky, and a great father to Bridget and Michele.
DONNA:  I don’t doubt that either.  I can agree that being a father and husband changed Jake.  He wasn’t involved in all of the schemes that he used to do.
MARLEY:  But what if...Jake just got tired.  All of those years just wore him out.
DONNA: Doing what?  You think he just didn’t want to be married anymore?
MARLEY:  That could be part of it, but I...I think Jake got tired of trying to make it up to her...for what he did to me.  I mean look at what he did to get me back.  He blackmailed Paulina after she shot him, and used her to try and get back with me.
DONNA:  You’re right.
MARLEY:  And when he couldn’t do that, he went and married Vicky.
DONNA:  Honey have you really dealt with what he did to you?
MARLEY:  Yes I did.  While I was in the mental institution after what I did to Vicky.  I am past it.  Really I am.  I’m just not sure if Victoria is.

THEY BOTH STOP AND SNIFF…

DONNA:  Uh oh...somebody smells.
MARLEY:  Yeah it’s time to change the little one.

MARLEY TAKES HIM AND WALKS TOWARD THE STAIRS.

DONNA:  Why don’t you leave him with me while you go get a diaper?
MARLEY:  No.  I’m not letting Roman out of my sight.  Not after what happened at the hospital.
DONNA:  Marley nothing is going to happen to him while he’s down here with me.
MARLEY:  Reginald can get to him if we’re not careful.  I’m not taking any chances.

--------------

VICKY:  Is that what you think I was doing all this time?  You think I married you to make you pay for what you did to Marley?  That sounds so stupid.
JAKE:  I waited until you got over Ryan.  I fought for you when you torn between Shane and me.  We raised the boys together.  I did it because I love them and I loved you.  It had nothing to do with trying to make amends.
VICKY:  Did you really think I was gonna forget about it?  I will never forget the look on her face; her broken spirit.  And everything that happened after the fire...all was rooted in what you did!  Then you didn’t tell the ranger that Shane and I were in the cabin.  So you tell me how I was supposed to trust you after that?   You tell me how I was supposed to trust a man who put my life in danger?

VICKY SHAKES HER HEAD AND FOLDS HER ARMS

VICKY:  You know I...I can’t believe it’s come to this.  We had...a wonderful time.
JAKE:  We had great times, but the lack of trust; the lies...they were always underneath...bubbling.
VICKY:  Like a volcano.
JAKE:  And it erupted.  The lack of trust was gonna come to the surface at some point.  Michele’s accident; Lindsay.  Why didn’t you lean on me Vicky?  We had known each other since Lassiter.  You stopped coming to me.  You didn’t lean on me.
VICKY:  You didn’t trust that I wanted to protect our family; our marriage.
JAKE:  A marriage that was based on mistrust.  You married me while you were in love with someone else.  Let me ask you something, if Shane hadn’t died, would we have ever stayed married as long as we did?  Would the girls have ever been born?
VICKY:  That’s not fair!
JAKE:  It’s a closed ended question.  I don’t believe so.
VICKY:  So we’ve spent eighteen years, married, and not trusting each other.
JAKE:  I guess not.
VICKY:  And now we’re divorced.
JAKE:  It’s time to move on with our lives.
VICKY:  Yeah I see you’ve moved on already.
JAKE:  What are you talking about?
VICKY:  The ink wasn’t even dry on the divorce papers when you were getting cozy with Paulina at Carl’s party.
JAKE:  Paulina and I are friends.
VICKY:  Are you sure that’s all you want this time?
JAKE:  I’m not discussing my friendship with Paulina with you.
VICKY:  I don’t even know who you are anymore.  You’re certainly not the Jake that I married.  Go ahead!  Live it up with Paulina!  I don’t give a damn what you do!
JAKE:  Paulina’s with Jack.
VICKY:  You’ve moved on rather quickly huh?
JAKE:  I am not involved with Paulina.
VICKY:  Hmm...not yet.
JAKE:  This isn’t easy.
VICKY:  Seemed that way to me.  You just gave up on our marriage.  You were divorced from me long before we signed any papers.
JAKE:  I still love you.  You’re Bridget and Michele’s mother, but we can’t be married anymore.  Without trust, we have nothing.
VICKY:  Hard to disagree with that.
JAKE:  For what it’s worth I’m..I’m sorry that our marriage ever came to this.
VICKY:  Yeah...I’m sorry, too.

VICKY WALKS TO THE DOOR AND TURNS AROUND

VICKY:  Don’t forget about the girls.  Michele blames herself for what happened with us.  She needs you to tell her that it’s not her fault.
JAKE:  I’ll talk to her.  Of course it isn’t her fault.  I love those girls more than my own life.  I may have stopped being your husband, but I’ll never stop being their father.
VICKY:  Goodbye Jake.
JAKE:  Goodbye Vicky.

VICKY CLOSES THE OFFICE DOOR AND JAKE JUST STARES AT THE DOOR

FREEZE FRAME ON JAKE...SLOW FADE OUT...END OF EPISODE 236
