Russ reaches out to Rachel
Cory confides in Iris

PART 1
Sandra Ferguson as Amanda Cory

Victoria Wyndham as Rachel Cory Hutchins

AT THE CORY’S...RACHEL IS SITTING IN THE LIVING ROOM ON THE COUCH STARING STRAIGHT AHEAD WHEN AMANDA WALKS IN.

AMANDA:  Mom what’s going on?
RACHEL:  I can’t get through to Cory or Elizabeth.

RACHEL GETS UP AND TAKES TWO STEPS TOWARD THE BACK DOUBLE GLASS DOORS, AND AMANDA WALKS CLOSER.

AMANDA:  I bet you’re trying to force them to tell you what they’re feeling.
RACHEL:  Oh I didn’t have to use any type of coersion.
AMANDA:  So they told you how they felt, and you didn’t like what they said.
RACHEL:  Something like that.

RACHEL TURNS BACK AROUND TO FACE AMANDA.

RACHEL:  You and Matthew weren’t like this when Mac died.
AMANDA:  Well this is a different time.  Cory and Elizabeth are different people.  You can’t expect the same reaction.
RACHEL:  Cory’s dredging up Carl’s past and Elizabeth thinks that I let him die.
AMANDA:  Well they’re...they’re grieving.  You’re gonna have to give them time to process it.  I mean they thought he was dead before, and you brought him back...only to turn around and lose him again.  It’s gotta be tough on them...and you.
RACHEL:  You don’t have to worry about me Amanda.  I’m gonna be fine.  My main concern is the children.
AMANDA:  Mom maybe you’re underestimating them.  They’re strong, just like you.  They’ll get through this.
RACHEL:  I sure hope so.
AMANDA:  I’m gonna go back to the office to put the finishing touches on this merger proposal.
RACHEL:  That’s right.  It’s in a couple of days.
AMANDA:  Mom you don’t have to worry about it.  Just take some time for yourself.
RACHEL:  No.  I want to make sure Iris doesn’t get her paws into your father’s company again.

Jed Allan as Dr. Russ Matthews
RUSS WALKS INTO THE LIVING ROOM FROM THE FOYER.

RUSS:  Did...someone mention Iris?

--------
Catherine Hickland As Iris Spaulding

Drew Tyler Bell as Cory Hutchins
IRIS’S OFFICE...IRIS WALKS IN WITH CORY RIGHT BEHIND HER.

IRIS:  Go ahead have a seat on the couch.  Do you want anything to eat?  I can order you something?
CORY:  No I’m not hungry.

IRIS WALKS OVER TO HER DESK AND SITS DOWN, FACING CORY.  CORY SITS ON THE COUCH.

IRIS: Cory are you okay?
CORY:  No.  Not at all.
IRIS:  Well whenever you’re ready to talk about it I will be here to listen.
CORY:  Now must not be a good time.  I...I know you’re busy.
IRIS:  No honey.  You’re always welcome here.

IRIS GETS UP, WALKS OVER TO THE COUCH, AND SITS NEXT TO CORY.

CORY:  Thanks that...that means a lot.
IRIS:  Okay.
CORY:  Why couldn’t mom be more like you?
IRIS:  I often ask myself that same question.
CORY:  No really.  She’s so pushy and aggressive.  She wants so badly to know what I’m feeling, and when I told her how I really felt she didn’t like it.
IRIS:  About Carl?
CORY:  Look I know you didn’t like my dad at all and you went to jail for his attempted murder.
IRIS:  I won’t lie to you.  I couldn’t get past him trying to kill Mac, and then your mother married him, but look what came out of that.  You and your sister.
CORY:  You think I’m...I’m gonna be like my dad?  You know...the way he was before?

IRIS PUTS HER LEFT HAND ON CORY’S LEFT SHOULDER.

IRIS:  No.  Of course not.  You’re nothing like the way he was.  You’re a loving, caring, wonderful young man.  Don’t you forget that.

THEY HUG.

CORY:  Thank you Iris.  You really make me feel better.

----
Denyse Tontz as Michele McKinnon

AT THE MCKINNONS...SOMEONE IS RINGING THE DOORBELL, AND MICHELE COMES DOWNSTAIRS.

MICHELE:  Cominnnng!

MICHELE OPENS THE DOOR AND IT’S ELIZABETH.
Kelley Missal as Elizabeth Hutchins

MICHELE:  Lizzie.  Come in come in.

ELIZABETH WALKS IN AND MICHELE SHUTS THE DOOR BEHIND HER.

ELIZABETH:  Are you headed out?
MICHELE:  I was going to my grandmother’s.  Wanna come along?
ELIZABETH:  I..I guess.
MICHELE:  You look like you need to talk to someone.  We can talk on the way.  Come on.

CAMERA PAN ON MICHELE AND ELIZABETH...SLOW FADE TO THEME SONG.

---

ON A SUNNY DAY, MICHELE AND ELIZABETH ARE SITTING ON A PARK BENCH NEXT TO EACH OTHER AS THEY ENDURE THE LIGHT BREEZE.

PART 2

MICHELE:  You’ve been crying haven’t you?
ELIZABETH:  I don’t know what to do.  My dad is gone, and my mom doesn’t seem to care.
MICHELE:  Oh I don’t think that’s true.
ELIZABETH:  Come on Michele.  She let my dad die.
MICHELE:  I don’t believe that.  She did everything she could.  If it weren’t for them, I’d probably still be with Grandpa Reginald at that clinic.   They brought me home.
ELIZABETH:  Yeah but...mom just seemed to...accept that my dad had an inoperable brain tumor, and that there was nothing that they could do.
MICHELE:  Don’t say that.  I saw the way they were with each other when we were on our way back to Bay City from Monticello.  They clearly loved each other.  I think you’re wrong about this Lizzie.
ELIZABETH:  I’m not wrong!  Everyone in this town hated my father, and I think deep down maybe my mother did, too.
MICHELE:  Noooo.  No I don’t think that’s true.
ELIZABETH:  You’re just like everyone else!

ELIZABETH GETS UP AND WALKS AWAY.

MICHELE:  Lizzie!  Come on!

CORY WALKS UP TO HER AND MICHELE LOOKS UP AT HIM.  THEY BOTH LOOK OUT AT THE DIRECTION THAT ELIZABETH LEFT IN.

CORY:  Was that my sister?
MICHELE:  She’s...really hurting over your dad.
CORY:  I know.  She’s taking this really hard.
MICHELE:  Umm...what about you?  How are you taking it?
CORY:  I’m trying.
MICHELE:  So have you...talked to my sister?
CORY:  Here and there, but not really.
MICHELE:  Oh.  Well...maybe she can try and help you get through it a little...and you know I’m here for you and Lizzie.
CORY:  Thanks.  I’ll talk to Lizzie.
MICHELE:  Good.  Where do you think she went?
CORY:  I dunno.  I’ll have to wait till she gets home.
MICHELE:  Okay.

MICHELE GETS UP AND FACES CORY.

MICHELE:  I know you and Bridget are together but...I hope we can...still be friends.
CORY:  Of course...always.

THEY HUG AND SMILE IN EACH OTHER’S FACES AFTER THE EMBRACE.

MICHELE:  Well I’m...headed to my grandmother’s.
CORY:  Okay.

-----

IRIS SITS AT HER DESK WHEN ALLEN KNOCKS ON THE OPEN DOOR.
Sean Blakemore as Allen Love

IRIS:  Hey come in.
ALLEN:  You called?
IRIS:  Yep I sure did.
ALLEN:  What’s going on?
IRIS:  You know we meet in front of the Board of Cory Productions in a couple of days.
ALLEN:  Right?
IRIS:  Has Amanda...told you anything?  Let something slip?
ALLEN:  She hasn’t really talked about it.  I haven’t seen much of her lately.
IRIS:  Wow that can’t be much of a relationship if you two aren’t spending a lot of time together.
ALLEN:  We’re both busy.
IRIS:  So she doesn’t leave anything lying around that you might have taken a look at.
ALLEN:  Nope.  She’s been very careful.
IRIS: She can’t be too pleased at you working for the enemy.
ALLEN:  Is that what you two are?
IRIS:  In the business world yes.
ALLEN:  Why are you asking about Amanda all of a sudden?  No...you want me to betray her don’t you?
IRIS:  I didn’t say that but…
ALLEN:  Oh I’m not doing this again.  You want me to steal secrets from her to give to you.

IRIS STRAIGHTENS HERSELF UP AT HER DESK, FOLDS HER HANDS, AND PLACES THEM ON THE DESK.

IRIS:  Allen you are one of my prized employees here at KBAY, and there’s a lot of upward mobility where you’re concerned.  This could really...bolster your career.

ALLEN TURNS HIS BACK, WALKS TOWARD THE DOOR, TURNS BACK AROUND AND POINTS HIS FINGER AT IRIS.

ALLEN:  I will not betray Amanda for you!

IRIS STANDS UP.

IRIS:  I would hate to think that you’re being insubordinate and disloyal.  I can’t have anyone I don’t trust on my team.
ALLEN:  You want me to destroy my relationship with Amanda.
IRIS:  Come on.  You have been working here long hours, and when you’re not here you’re either with Toni Burrell, or your daughter, and I’m sure Amanda is burning the midnight oil at Cory Productions preparing for this merger.  I think it’s a small price to pay...don’tcha think?

----

AT THE CORY’S, RUSS WALKS INTO THE LIVING ROOM AND RACHEL AND AMANDA HAVE TO ANSWER HIS QUESTION.

AMANDA:  A business dealing.  Cory Productions stuff.
RACHEL:  She’s right.
AMANDA:  Well mom I’m gonna head outta here.  Think about what I said.  Love you.
RACHEL:  Love you, too honey.
AMANDA WALKS OUT LEAVING RUSS AND RACHEL TO TALK.  RUSS AND RACHEL ARE FACING EACH OTHER.

RUSS:  Are you sure it’s just business when it comes to you and Iris?
RACHEL:  Of course it is why would it be anything else?
RUSS:  I can think of two people, Mac and Carl.
RACHEL:  They’re both dead now aren’t they?
RUSS:  Oh yeah...right...bad taste.  Sorry.
RACHEL:  It’s...it’s okay.  What brings you by?
RUSS:  Came to check on you.
RACHEL:  I appreciate it very much but I’m a pretty strong woman.  I can take care of myself.
RUSS:  So you’re gonna go against Carl’s wishes.
RACHEL:  And what were those?
RUSS:  He wanted me to...look out for you.  Make sure that you’re okay.
RACHEL:  Well I’m fine.
RUSS:  No you’re not Rachel.  Something clearly is on your mind.

RACHEL TURNS AROUND AND FACES THE DOUBLE GLASS DOORS IN THE BACK.

RACHEL:  I’m sorry.  You’re right I...things haven’t been good since Carl died.  Especially for the children.
RUSS:  You mean Cory and Elizabeth.

RACHEL TURNS BACK AROUND TO FACE RUSS, AND RUSS MOVES CLOSER.

RACHEL:  I can’t reach them.  I’m their mother, and they don’t trust me.  I don’t know what to do anymore.  I’m really really worried about them.
RUSS:  There’s nothing that you really can do.
RACHEL:  What do you mean there’s nothing you can do?  There’s always something you can do to help your children.  What if Olivia or Josie were hurting?  Wouldn’t you want to help them?
RUSS:  This is not quite the same thing.  One thing I’m learning is that our kids have minds of their own.  We have to let them come to us when they need us.  In the meantime, we just have to sit back and watch.
RACHEL:  Cory and Elizabeth are two different personalities but I can see the hurt in their eyes.  Cory is stoic, and Elizabeth is emotional, but they’re both hurting.  Carl loved them very much, and they loved their father, too.
RUSS:  I’m sure they did.  It will all work out Rachel.  Just hang in there.  You’ll get through this.  You and your children.
RACHEL:  I just hope that...too much damage isn’t done before we start healing.
RUSS:  Come here.

RUSS AND RACHEL EMBRACE.

RUSS:  It’s gonna be alright.

CORY WALKS INTO THE LIVING ROOM AND WATCHES THEM EMBRACE.

RUSS:  I had to come by and check and see if you were still alive.
IRIS:  I’m fine.  I’ve just so busy with the merger meeting coming up.  I haven’t had a whole lot of time.  I’m sorry.  I have so much to do.  I may have to take a raincheck on dinner.
RUSS:  How about a club sandwich from the Center deli.  They’re excellent I heard.

Drew Tyler Bell as Cory Hutchins
Sean Blakemore as Allen Love

ALLEN:  Cory?  What’s up?  What are you doing here?
CORY:  Hey I’m...looking for Iris.  Have you seen her?
ALLEN:  She must have stepped out for a minute.  She should be back soon.

------

AT THE CENTER, RUSS AND IRIS ARE SITTING ACROSS FROM EACH OTHER.  IRIS IS DABBING CRUMBS FROM EACH SIDE OF HER MOUTH WITH A NAPKIN AS SHE CHEWS THE LAST OF HER SANDWICH.

RUSS:  Someone was hungry.

IRIS DRINKS A SWIG OF WATER TO WASH DOWN HER FOOD.

IRIS (after she swallows):  I was.  I hadn’t had anything to eat since yesterday.
RUSS:  Well you’ve gotta eat regularly my dear.
IRIS:  Okay Dr. Matthews this is not the time to put your physician hat on.
RUSS:  Right, but you know I’m always gonna be concerned about you.
IRIS:  Thanks but you don’t need to be.  I’m a big girl.
RUSS:  Iris come on.  Don’t be like that.
IRIS:  Russ you just got back.  Easy on the advice okay?

THEY BOTH SMILE AT EACH OTHER.

IRIS:  So tell me how are things at the hospital?
RUSS:  As you know I didn’t get the Chief of Staff position.
IRIS:  I used to be on the hospital board.  A lot has changed since I was on the committee.
RUSS:  Well they decided on Thomasina Mason.
IRIS:  Thomasina Mason?  Who’s she?
RUSS:  She used to live in Bay City a long time ago.  It seems like she’s returned to town with a chip on her shoulder.
IRIS:  I know how that can feel.
RUSS:  I asked her about a patient and she darned near snapped at me.
IRIS:  Hmmm there are two sides to that story I’m sure.
RUSS:  Okay okay maybe I overstepped, but she took it as I was trying to belittle her ability to handle the job.
IRIS:  Were you?
RUSS:  Of course not.  I would never do that intentionally.  I was just trying to help.
IRIS:  Okay, I’ll take your word for it.
RUSS:  But I noticed something with her.  It’s almost like...she’s got something to prove.
IRIS:  Maybe she just feels the pressure of doing a great job.
RUSS:  No...no it’s...something else but I...I just can’t quite figure it out.

CORY WALKS UP TO THEM…

IRIS:  Cory?  Hi.
RUSS:  Hello Cory.
CORY:  Iris.  Hey can I...talk to you?
RUSS:  Yeah we...were kinda in the middle of lunch.
CORY:  Hey I’m sorry.  I didn’t mean to interrupt.

IRIS PUTS HER LEFT HAND ON CORY’S BACK.

IRIS:  No not at all.  Of course you weren’t honey.  I have to get back to work.   Is everything okay?
CORY:  No not really.
IRIS:  Of course.  Your dad.  You can come with me back to the office if you need to talk.
CORY:  Thank you.  I’d like that.
IRIS:  Russ, thanks for lunch.  Very much appreciated.
RUSS:  Anytime.

---------

AT THE HOSPITAL, CHARLIE WALKS INTO THOMASINA’S OFFICE.  THOMASINA IS SITTING AT HER DESK, THEN SHE GETS UP AND GOES TO GREET CHARLIE.
Amelia Marshall as Dr. Thomasina Mason

THOMASINA:  Hello Mrs. Harrison.
CHARLIE:  Hi Dr. Mason.
THOMASINA:  Go on have a seat on the couch.  Make yourself comfortable.
CHARLIE:  This is a nice office.  Congratulations on Chief of Staff by the way.

THOMASINA PACES SLOWLY BACK AND FORTH WITH HER ARMS FOLDED.

THOMASINA:  Thank you.  So you’re here because you want the PR Internship here?  Why?
CHARLIE:  It’s something I...I have always wanted to do and...have a passion for speaking to the public.
THOMASINA:  I...can tell you liked P.R.  You took it at your other school.

CHARLIE HESITATES FOR A SECOND…

CHARLIE:  Yes I...I did.
THOMASINA:  What happened?  Why did you stop?
CHARLIE:  I...had a lot of things going on.  I just wasn’t ready for the courseload.
THOMASINA:  And what makes you ready now?
CHARLIE:  When I went to the other school, I didn’t know what to expect, but now I have a better understanding of what it takes to get through school.
THOMASINA:  What makes you a good candidate for this position?  Why should I hire you?
CHARLIE:  Well like I said before I...have a passion for getting up in front of people and speaking; giving information; press releases, all of that.

THOMASINA STOPS PACING AND FACES CHARLIE.

THOMASINA:  We all have passions for different things.  This takes dedication; hard work; making sure that you are communicating clearly to our constituents, and that you forge a good relationship with the public.  That’s my goal.  I plan to have this hospital recognized in the community in a positive light, and I want someone who can share that same vision with me.  It will really help you in your career goals.  A successful internship at Bay City Medical Center can take you a long way.
CHARLIE:  I fully realize that Dr. Mason and I know I can be what you’re looking for.
THOMASINA:  And all of that sounds well and good, but I do have a concern about you leaving your other school.
CHARLIE:  As I said I’ve...I’ve learned from my mistakes and now I’m ready to take this on.
THOMASINA:  Well...thank you Mrs. Harrison.  I think I...have all the information I need from you.  Do you have any questions for me?
CHARLIE:  No...none that I can think of.
THOMASINA:  Well you do have my contact information, so you can call or email if you think of something.
CHARLIE:  Thank you for this opportunity Dr. Mason.
THOMASINA:  Sure.

THOMASINA SMILES AS CHARLIE LEAVES THE OFFICE, AND AS CHARLIE LEAVES, KC WALKS UP TO HER.

KC:  Hey Charlie.  Is that Dr. Mason’s office?
CHARLIE:  Yeah...yeah it is.
KC:  Sorry I have an interview with her.
CHARLIE:  For the P.R. internship?
KC:  Ummm….yeah is that what you...were interviewing for?
CHARLIE:  Yeah I did.  It seemed to go pretty well.
KC:  Well good luck.
CHARLIE:  Same to you.

-----

AT THE WINTHROPS, MAGGIE RINGS THE DOORBELL AND FRANKIE OPENS THE DOOR.
Alice Barrett as Frankie Frame

FRANKIE:  Hey there.  Come on in.  Wait a minute, before you close the door.

MAGGIE TAKES OUT HER CAR KEYS, PRESSES THE LOCK BUTTON, AND HEARS THE BEEP.

FRANKIE:  Good.  Now you can come in.
MAGGIE:  History right.
FRANKIE:  Yeah we don’t wanna repeat that.  So what’s up?
MAGGIE:  Is Cass here?
FRANKIE:  No he’s at the office.  Why?  You want me to call him?
MAGGIE:  No.  I need to talk to you.
FRANKIE:  What is it?  Is everything alright?
MAGGIE:  Everything’s great with me, but not with Brianna Jameson.
FRANKIE:  Who’s that?
MAGGIE:  She’s a nurse at the hospital, and something about her just doesn’t...sit right with me.
FRANKIE:  Do you have any idea what it might be that’s got you suspicious?
MAGGIE:  I don’t knoooow.  She’s dating Matt and she’s not right for him.  She’s phony.
FRANKIE:  So what do you want me to do?  Look into her past?
MAGGIE:  Yeah.
FRANKIE:  Well I can’t look into her background because you’re jealous Maggie.
MAGGIE:  Oh my God.  Rachel said the same thing.  It’s not jealousy.
FRANKIE:  Sounds like it to me.  Matt can date who he wants.
MAGGIE:  Yeah but not her.  Something about her isn’t right.  Frankie please.  What if you find something in her background that could stop her from hurting him?
FRANKIE:  And what if I don’t?
MAGGIE:  So you’re telling me that you’re not gonna at least give it a look.

FRANKIE IS SILENT FOR A FEW SECONDS AS SHE MULLS IT OVER…

FRANKIE:  No I...I just can’t do that Maggie.  I can’t go digging into someone’s past because you think she’s not right for Matt.
MAGGIE:  You could be saving him a world of hurt if you could find something on her.
FRANKIE:  I’m sorry I...I can’t go investigating her without a cause.
MAGGIE:  And if she hurts Matthew will you be able to live with yourself?
FRANKIE:  Maggie, all I see here is that you’re jealous of her.  Do you have feelings for Matt?

MAGGIE  STOPS AND THEN…

MAGGIE:  No don’t be ridiculous.  Of course I don’t have feelings for Matt.   I’m just...I’m just looking out for his best interests that’s all.  If Brianna hurts him, that bitch is gonna have to deal with me.

---------

MEANWHILE BACK AT THE HOSPITAL, IN CHRISTY’S ROOM…

BRIANNA:  Because...because you need me.  You still need me.
CHRISTY:  The first thing you can do is get me a new bed.
BRIANNA:  I’ll...I’ll tell the police you told me to kidnap Maggie Winthrop.
CHRISTY:  And what proof do you have?  You sure aren’t very bright to be a nurse.
BRIANNA:  What about the drug?
CHRISTY:  The one I dropped in Felicia’s club soda?  You can’t connect that to me either.  It’s all you dear.  All I have to do is pick up that phone and call the police, and you can kiss your career, and your life, goodbye.

BRIANNA STEPS OUT OF THE WAY AND PICKS UP THE RECEIVER FROM THE PHONE ON THE NIGHTSTAND NEXT TO THE BED.

BRIANNA:  Well call em then!  What’s stopping you?  Call the police and tell em that I kidnapped Maggie!

CHRISTY TAKES OUT HER CELL PHONE AND PRESSES A BUTTON, AND IT PLAYS BACK WHAT BRIANNA JUST SAID.

CHRISTY:  That was just for insurance.
BRIANNA:  You bitch.
CHRISTY:  If I were you I’d watch your mouth.  I have your whole life in my hands, but I’m not gonna use this, because you’re right.  I do need you.
BRIANNA:  For what?
CHRISTY:  When I find out who killed my baby, you’re gonna help me take them down.
BRIANNA:  How am I supposed to do that?
CHRISTY:  You better figure something out, or I will go straight to the police.

CHRISTY LOOKS AWAY FROM BRIANNA…

CHRISTY:  When I find out who hit me on Route 17, I promise you...I’m gonna make them pay.

FREEZE FRAME ON CHRISTY...SLOW FADE OUT...END OF EPISODE 252
