Russ reaches out to Rachel
Cory confides in Iris

PART 1
Sandra Ferguson as Amanda Cory

Victoria Wyndham as Rachel Cory Hutchins

AT THE CORY’S...RACHEL IS SITTING IN THE LIVING ROOM ON THE COUCH STARING STRAIGHT AHEAD WHEN AMANDA WALKS IN.

AMANDA:  Mom what’s going on?
RACHEL:  I can’t get through to Cory or Elizabeth.

RACHEL GETS UP AND TAKES TWO STEPS TOWARD THE BACK DOUBLE GLASS DOORS, AND AMANDA WALKS CLOSER.

AMANDA:  I bet you’re trying to force them to tell you what they’re feeling.
RACHEL:  Oh I didn’t have to use any type of coersion.
AMANDA:  So they told you how they felt, and you didn’t like what they said.
RACHEL:  Something like that.

RACHEL TURNS BACK AROUND TO FACE AMANDA.

RACHEL:  You and Matthew weren’t like this when Mac died.
AMANDA:  Well this is a different time.  Cory and Elizabeth are different people.  You can’t expect the same reaction.
RACHEL:  Cory’s dredging up Carl’s past and Elizabeth thinks that I let him die.
AMANDA:  Well they’re...they’re grieving.  You’re gonna have to give them time to process it.  I mean they thought he was dead before, and you brought him back...only to turn around and lose him again.  It’s gotta be tough on them...and you.
RACHEL:  You don’t have to worry about me Amanda.  I’m gonna be fine.  My main concern is the children.
AMANDA:  Mom maybe you’re underestimating them.  They’re strong, just like you.  They’ll get through this.
RACHEL:  I sure hope so.
AMANDA:  I’m gonna go back to the office to put the finishing touches on this merger proposal.
RACHEL:  That’s right.  It’s in a couple of days.
AMANDA:  Mom you don’t have to worry about it.  Just take some time for yourself.
RACHEL:  No.  I want to make sure Iris doesn’t get her paws into your father’s company again.

Jed Allan as Dr. Russ Matthews
RUSS WALKS INTO THE LIVING ROOM FROM THE FOYER.

RUSS:  Did...someone mention Iris?

--------
Catherine Hickland As Iris Spaulding

Drew Tyler Bell as Cory Hutchins
IRIS’S OFFICE...IRIS WALKS IN WITH CORY RIGHT BEHIND HER.

IRIS:  Go ahead have a seat on the couch.  Do you want anything to eat?  I can order you something?
CORY:  No I’m not hungry.

IRIS WALKS OVER TO HER DESK AND SITS DOWN, FACING CORY.  CORY SITS ON THE COUCH.

IRIS: Cory are you okay?
CORY:  No.  Not at all.
IRIS:  Well whenever you’re ready to talk about it I will be here to listen.
CORY:  Now must not be a good time.  I...I know you’re busy.
IRIS:  No honey.  You’re always welcome here.

IRIS GETS UP, WALKS OVER TO THE COUCH, AND SITS NEXT TO CORY.

CORY:  Thanks that...that means a lot.
IRIS:  Okay.
CORY:  Why couldn’t mom be more like you?
IRIS:  I often ask myself that same question.
CORY:  No really.  She’s so pushy and aggressive.  She wants so badly to know what I’m feeling, and when I told her how I really felt she didn’t like it.
IRIS:  About Carl?
CORY:  Look I know you didn’t like my dad at all and you went to jail for his attempted murder.
IRIS:  I won’t lie to you.  I couldn’t get past him trying to kill Mac, and then your mother married him, but look what came out of that.  You and your sister.
CORY:  You think I’m...I’m gonna be like my dad?  You know...the way he was before?

IRIS PUTS HER LEFT HAND ON CORY’S LEFT SHOULDER.

IRIS:  No.  Of course not.  You’re nothing like the way he was.  You’re a loving, caring, wonderful young man.  Don’t you forget that.

THEY HUG.

CORY:  Thank you Iris.  You really make me feel better.

----
Denyse Tontz as Michele McKinnon

AT THE MCKINNONS...SOMEONE IS RINGING THE DOORBELL, AND MICHELE COMES DOWNSTAIRS.

MICHELE:  Cominnnng!

MICHELE OPENS THE DOOR AND IT’S ELIZABETH.
Kelley Missal as Elizabeth Hutchins

MICHELE:  Lizzie.  Come in come in.

ELIZABETH WALKS IN AND MICHELE SHUTS THE DOOR BEHIND HER.

ELIZABETH:  Are you headed out?
MICHELE:  I was going to my grandmother’s.  Wanna come along?
ELIZABETH:  I..I guess.
MICHELE:  You look like you need to talk to someone.  We can talk on the way.  Come on.

---

ON A SUNNY DAY, MICHELE AND ELIZABETH ARE SITTING ON A PARK BENCH NEXT TO EACH OTHER AS THEY ENDURE THE LIGHT BREEZE.

PART 2

MICHELE:  You’ve been crying haven’t you?
ELIZABETH:  I don’t know what to do.  My dad is gone, and my mom doesn’t seem to care.
MICHELE:  Oh I don’t think that’s true.
ELIZABETH:  Come on Michele.  She let my dad die.
MICHELE:  I don’t believe that.  She did everything she could.  If it weren’t for them, I’d probably still be with Grandpa Reginald at that clinic.   They brought me home.
ELIZABETH:  Yeah but...mom just seemed to...accept that my dad had an inoperable brain tumor, and that there was nothing that they could do.
MICHELE:  Don’t say that.  I saw the way they were with each other when we were on our way back to Bay City from Monticello.  They clearly loved each other.  I think you’re wrong about this Lizzie.
ELIZABETH:  I’m not wrong!  Everyone in this town hated my father, and I think deep down maybe my mother did, too.
MICHELE:  Noooo.  No I don’t think that’s true.
ELIZABETH:  You’re just like everyone else!

ELIZABETH GETS UP AND WALKS AWAY.

MICHELE:  Lizzie!  Come on!

CORY WALKS UP TO HER AND MICHELE LOOKS UP AT HIM.  THEY BOTH LOOK OUT AT THE DIRECTION THAT ELIZABETH LEFT IN.

CORY:  Was that my sister?
MICHELE:  She’s...really hurting over your dad.
CORY:  I know.  She’s taking this really hard.
MICHELE:  Umm...what about you?  How are you taking it?
CORY:  I’m trying.
MICHELE:  So have you...talked to my sister?
CORY:  Here and there, but not really.
MICHELE:  Oh.  Well...maybe she can try and help you get through it a little...and you know I’m here for you and Lizzie.
CORY:  Thanks.  I’ll talk to Lizzie.
MICHELE:  Good.  Where do you think she went?
CORY:  I dunno.  I’ll have to wait till she gets home.
MICHELE:  Okay.

MICHELE GETS UP AND FACES CORY.

MICHELE:  I know you and Bridget are together but...I hope we can...still be friends.
CORY:  Of course...always.

THEY HUG AND SMILE IN EACH OTHER’S FACES AFTER THE EMBRACE.

MICHELE:  Well I’m...headed to my grandmother’s.
CORY:  Okay.

-----

IRIS SITS AT HER DESK WHEN ALLEN KNOCKS ON THE OPEN DOOR.
Sean Blakemore as Allen Love

IRIS:  Hey come in.
ALLEN:  You called?
IRIS:  Yep I sure did.
ALLEN:  What’s going on?
IRIS:  You know we meet in front of the Board of Cory Productions in a couple of days.
ALLEN:  Right?
IRIS:  Has Amanda...told you anything?  Let something slip?
ALLEN:  She hasn’t really talked about it.  I haven’t seen much of her lately.
IRIS:  Wow that can’t be much of a relationship if you two aren’t spending a lot of time together.
ALLEN:  We’re both busy.
IRIS:  So she doesn’t leave anything lying around that you might have taken a look at.
ALLEN:  Nope.  She’s been very careful.
IRIS: She can’t be too pleased at you working for the enemy.
ALLEN:  Is that what you two are?
IRIS:  In the business world yes.
ALLEN:  Why are you asking about Amanda all of a sudden?  No...you want me to betray her don’t you?
IRIS:  I didn’t say that but…
ALLEN:  Oh I’m not doing this again.  You want me to steal secrets from her to give to you.

IRIS STRAIGHTENS HERSELF UP AT HER DESK, FOLDS HER HANDS, AND PLACES THEM ON THE DESK.

IRIS:  Allen you are one of my prized employees here at KBAY, and there’s a lot of upward mobility where you’re concerned.  This could really...bolster your career.

ALLEN TURNS HIS BACK, WALKS TOWARD THE DOOR, TURNS BACK AROUND AND POINTS HIS FINGER AT IRIS.

ALLEN:  I will not betray Amanda for you!

IRIS STANDS UP.

IRIS:  I would hate to think that you’re being insubordinate and disloyal.  I can’t have anyone I don’t trust on my team.
ALLEN:  You want me to destroy my relationship with Amanda.
IRIS:  Come on.  You have been working here long hours, and when you’re not here you’re either with Toni Burrell, or your daughter, and I’m sure Amanda is burning the midnight oil at Cory Productions preparing for this merger.  I think it’s a small price to pay...don’tcha think?

----

AT THE CORY’S, RUSS WALKS INTO THE LIVING ROOM AND RACHEL AND AMANDA HAVE TO ANSWER HIS QUESTION.

AMANDA:  A business dealing.  Cory Productions stuff.
RACHEL:  She’s right.
AMANDA:  Well mom I’m gonna head outta here.  Think about what I said.  Love you.
RACHEL:  Love you, too honey.
AMANDA WALKS OUT LEAVING RUSS AND RACHEL TO TALK.  RUSS AND RACHEL ARE FACING EACH OTHER.

RUSS:  Are you sure it’s just business when it comes to you and Iris?
RACHEL:  Of course it is why would it be anything else?
RUSS:  I can think of two people, Mac and Carl.
RACHEL:  They’re both dead now aren’t they?
RUSS:  Oh yeah...right...bad taste.  Sorry.
RACHEL:  It’s...it’s okay.  What brings you by?
RUSS:  Came to check on you.
RACHEL:  I appreciate it very much but I’m a pretty strong woman.  I can take care of myself.
RUSS:  So you’re gonna go against Carl’s wishes.
RACHEL:  And what were those?
RUSS:  He wanted me to...look out for you.  Make sure that you’re okay.
RACHEL:  Well I’m fine.
RUSS:  No you’re not Rachel.  Something clearly is on your mind.

RACHEL TURNS AROUND AND FACES THE DOUBLE GLASS DOORS IN THE BACK.

RACHEL:  I’m sorry.  You’re right I...things haven’t been good since Carl died.  Especially for the children.
RUSS:  You mean Cory and Elizabeth.

RACHEL TURNS BACK AROUND TO FACE RUSS, AND RUSS MOVES CLOSER.

RACHEL:  I can’t reach them.  I’m their mother, and they don’t trust me.  I don’t know what to do anymore.  I’m really really worried about them.
RUSS:  There’s nothing that you really can do.
RACHEL:  What do you mean there’s nothing you can do?  There’s always something you can do to help your children.  What if Olivia or Josie were hurting?  Wouldn’t you want to help them?
RUSS:  This is not quite the same thing.  One thing I’m learning is that our kids have minds of their own.  We have to let them come to us when they need us.  In the meantime, we just have to sit back and watch.
RACHEL:  Cory and Elizabeth are two different personalities but I can see the hurt in their eyes.  Cory is stoic, and Elizabeth is emotional, but they’re both hurting.  Carl loved them very much, and they loved their father, too.
RUSS:  I’m sure they did.  It will all work out Rachel.  Just hang in there.  You’ll get through this.  You and your children.
RACHEL:  I just hope that...too much damage isn’t done before we start healing.
RUSS:  Come here.

RUSS AND RACHEL EMBRACE.

RUSS:  It’s gonna be alright.

CORY WALKS INTO THE LIVING ROOM AND WATCHES THEM EMBRACE.

  1. Oh I know there'll be some misunderstanding about that hug, for sure.

A softer episode, but still great. I really love how you capture Rachel. I know I've said this before but I always can play her scenes in my head, they're so natural and well-written. I loved her interactions with Amanda and with Russ. She's really confused and putting on her usual strong front. Very terse, not giving too much away. Russ, and Amanda see through it, though. I have a strong feeling Cory won't like what he sees in the next episode, Rachel in russ' arms.

Elizabeth is reeling, and she's taking it out on Rachel, much like Cory is. But Elizabeth is lashing out far more. Even Michele can't get through to her, but Cory has Iris. That will be quite a mess when Rachel hears about it. I can't wait for those fireworks. Rachel will surely feel like Iris is using Cory to get to her. I'm sure in some ways that's true.

Iris up to no good, trying to use Allen's relationship with Amanda to her business advantage. It sounds like it's bound to blow up in her face, though.

    Great, character-driven episode. Great work!

  2. No Russ SAlly and jack. Of course Lizzie and Cory. I like Russ and Rachel together but I know already Cory is gonna take them embracing the wrong way and hes gonna have a knee jerk reaction not helping his emotions at all.

It was nice that Lizzie and Michelle bonded a little. lizzie needs to speak about her pain. It was also nice that Cory and Michelle were cordial to one another.

Iris really thinks Allen is gonna tell her anything about Amanda. She's got balls but shes right and she hit the nails on the head pointing out the flaws that are occuring in his relationship with Amanda and even kind of threaten him.

Nice opening as well. loved Donna's picture!!
