JOY: Good morning.
STEVEN: Breakfast anyone?
JOY: I was just wondering what I wanted to eat. Perfect timing.
STEVEN: I got some egg whites on wheat bread for us.
STEVEN GOES TO THE DINING ROOM TABLE, PUTS THE BAGS DOWN, AND TAKES THE FOOD OUT.
JOY: So thoughtful.
STEVEN: Anything for the woman I love.
JOY: Hmm why don’t we...skip breakfast.
STEVEN: Where’s Thomasina?
JOY: She’s at the hospital. She isn’t coming home any time soon.
JOY PUTS HER ARMS ON STEVEN’S SHOULDERS, and STEVEN PUTS HIS ARMS ON HER WAIST, AND THEY START KISSING…

AT THE HOSPITAL, THOMASINA IS SLEEPING ON A COT IN THE DOCTOR’S QUARTERS. HER CELL PHONE ALARM RINGS AND RUSS PICKS UP HER PHONE. THOMASINA WAKES UP GROGGY.
RUSS: Dr. Mason.
THOMASINA: Time to get up huh?
RUSS: Rise and shine.
THOMASINA: Oh. Thank God I set my alarm.
RUSS: Just wanted to brief you on a couple of patients. One of the nurses told me you were in here.
THOMASINA: Can you meet me in my office in about twenty minutes? I got a busy day today. Gotta check on my patients, and I got an interview to conduct..
RUSS: An interview?
THOMASINA: PR internship opening. I’m interviewing Charlotte Harrison later today.

LINDSAY: Hey you got your interview today right?
CHARLIE: For the P.R. internship opening at the hospital.
LINDSAY: Wow. Good luck. Maybe I’ll do some sleuthing and see if you got the inside track.
CHARLIE: Oh thanks but I wouldn’t want you to get in trouble.
LINDSAY: Okay fine. Can’t say I didn’t wanna help my cuz.
CHARLIE: Appreciate it. Hey Gregory was in that accident on Route 17 last night?
LINDSAY: Yeah. Thank God he’s gonna be fine.
CHARLIE: He and cars don’t mix do they?
LINDSAY: I’ll encourage him to use Lyft more often.
CHARLIE: Right.

AT THE HOSPITAL, JOHN AND SHARLENE ARE IN GREGORY’S ROOM.
SHARLENE: How are you feeling honey?
GREGORY: I’m okay mom.
JOHN: What’s with you and cars?
GREGORY: I don’t know dad, but I promise you I wasn’t high this time.
SHARLENE: What happened?
DANTE: That’s what I’d like to find out.
SHARLENE: Dante.
DANTE: John, Sharlene. I’m actually glad you’re here, but I wanna question Gregory about the accident on Route 17.
JOHN: Are you up to it Gregory?
SHARLENE: You don’t have to if you don’t feel like it right now.
DANTE: This won’t take long.
GREGORY: I’m fine. I can answer any questions he has.
DANTE: You can start by telling me what happened.
GREGORY: I was driving my mom’s car down Route 17.
DANTE: DId you see anything unusual?
GREGORY: No not really. Just two cars ahead. Then something weird happened.
The car kept speeding up and I couldn’t stop. I swerved, and then the car spun until and the back of the car hit a tree. That’s the only way I probably was going to stop the car.
SHARLENE: You couldn’t stop? What do you mean?
GREGORY: It’s like...the brakes failed or something.
DANTE: It makes sense. Thanks Gregory. John, Sharlene can I see you outside.
---
OUTSIDE OF GREGORY’S ROOM…
JOHN: Dante what do you wanna talk to us?
SHARLENE: We were in Chicago during that accident. We came as soon as we heard that Gregory was in the hospital.
DANTE: Gregory said he couldn’t stop the car. It makes total sense because…
SHARLENE: Because what?
DANTE: We impounded the car and it was investigated for anything unusual.
JOHN: Well did you find anything?
DANTE: Yeah. There was no brake fluid in it.
JOHN AND SHARLENE LOOK AT EACH OTHER WITH AMAZEMENT.

PART 2
STEVEN AND JOY ARE LYING IN BED TOGETHER AFTER HAVING MADE LOVE. JOY IS LYING ON STEVEN’S RIGHT SHOULDER AS STEVEN HAS HIS RIGHT ARM AROUND HER.
STEVEN: Wow. I can get used to that.
JOY: Can you now?
STEVEN: Yeah. Why wouldn’t I?
JOY: No I’m just saying. I mean I would have to find new and innovative ways to keep you...satisfied.
STEVEN: So you didn’t put your best foot forward just now?
JOY: Can’t a gal save some for later?
STEVEN: You’re lucky I love you. I’ll wait for these...new...and innovative ways.
JOY: Here’s one tried and true method.
STEVEN: And what’s that my sexy lady.
JOY: I’ve got time. My cousin won’t be back for a while, especially that accident on Route 17 last night.
JOY PROPS HERSELF UP AND THEY BEGIN TO KISS PASSIONATELY.

THOMASINA IS IN HER OFFICE WITH RUSS.
THOMASINA: Thank you for telling me about those patients.
RUSS: Sure.
THOMASINA STARTS TO WRITE THINGS DOWN AND RUSS DOESN’T LEAVE THE OFFICE.
THOMASINA: Is there anything else Dr. Matthews?
RUSS: Yes as a matter of fact there is.
THOMASINA: Okay.
THOMASINA CONTINUES WRITING, NOT LOOKING UP AT RUSS.
RUSS: I was thinking, with you being new to the Chief of Staff position, you’ve probably got a lot on your plate.
THOMASINA: That could be true.
RUSS: WIth all due respect, maybe I could take over Christy Carson’s case.
THOMASINA STOPS WRITING AND LOOKS UP AT RUSS.
THOMASINA: What exactly are you suggesting Dr. Matthews? That I can’t handle the responsibilities of being Chief Of Staff and my patient load?
RUSS: That’s...not what I’m suggesting at all. I thought I could help you in that way.
THOMASINA: I’m sorry but I think you’re being disrespectful right now.
RUSS: I’m...I’m not I...just thought I would be able to help you concentrate on the affairs of the hospital.
THOMASINA GETS UP AND WALKS SLOWLY TOWARD RUSS.
THOMASINA: I knew exactly what I was getting into when I took this position. Apparently, the hospital felt that I was qualified to handle the rigors that being Chief of Staff entail, and for you to suggest that I can’t is extremely insulting.
RUSS: I apologize Dr. Mason, I didn’t mean to do that.
THOMASINA WALKS BACK TO HER DESK, SITS, ADJUSTS HER CHAIR AND CONTINUES WRITING.
THOMASINA: If you’ll excuse me, I have an interview to prepare for.
---
OUTSIDE OF GREGORY’S ROOM, JOHN AND SHARLENE CONTINUE TALKING WITH DANTE.
DANTE: Did you notice anything unusual with the brakes before Gregory used the car? Any leaks?
JOHN AND SHARLENE LOOK AT EACH OTHER.
JOHN: No. Did you?
SHARLENE: Not at all. Everything seemed fine.
JOHN: We always make sure our cars are serviced properly.
SHARLENE: If I had known there was something wrong with the car, I never would have let Gregory drive it.
DANTE: It is very unusual because all the brake fluid was gone.
JOHN: As if someone...purposely drained it?
DANTE: There was a cut in the line, and it seemed that’s where all the fluid leaked.
SHARLENE: What? So you think someone did this deliberately? They wanted me to get into an accident?
DANTE: I don’t want to alarm you but...it certainly appears that way.
JOHN AND SHARLENE LOOK AT EACH OTHER AGAIN.
SHARLENE: So you’re saying that...someone tried to kill me.
DANTE: It looks that way.
JOHN: If someone’s trying to kill my wife you need to catch them.
DANTE: Can you think of anyone? Sharlene maybe someone from your time as Sharly Watts?
SHARLENE: I left that life a long time ago.
DANTE: I certainly don’t see you as the kind of person who has a lot of enemies.
JOHN: Wait a minute. We had one...cruel and clever enemy. She made our lives a living hell.
DANTE: Who?
SHARLENE LOOKS AWAY.
JOHN: Her former psychiatrist.
SHARLENE: Taylor Benson.
