CARLY GOES TO JACK’S SIDE AND THEY PUT THEIR ARMS AROUND EACH OTHER, FURTHER BREAKING PAULINA’S HEART.
CARLY: I don’t wanna argue or fight, I just wanna work things out with my husband, and I would appreciate...if you left us alone...so we can put our family back together.
PAULINA LOOKS BACK AND FORTH AT JACK AND CARLY AND WHEN JACK OFFERS NO RESPONSE, SHE LEAVES. AFTER SHE SHUTS THE DOOR, AND SOBS.
SHE FLASHES BACK TO THE PRESENT AS BLUE WAILING POLICE LIGHTS GET HER ATTENTION. SHE STOPS AND ROLLS DOWN HER DRIVER’S SIDE WINDOW SO SHE CAN TALK TO A DARK HAIRED YOUNG MAN DRESSED IN JEANS, A SPORTCOAT WITH A POLICE BADGE ON THE LEFT POCKET, AND A WHITE T SHIRT.

DANTE: Mom what are you doin’ out here? You’ve been crying, too. What’s goin’ on?
PAULINA: Long story. What’s happening here?
DANTE: You’re gonna have to take Route 19 back to town tonight?
PAULINA: Why? Was there some kind of accident?
DANTE: Yeah.
PAULINA: Oh goodness I hope no-one was hurt.
DANTE: We sure hope so.

JOHN AND SHARLENE ARE LYING IN BED IN CHICAGO.
SHARLENE: We’re not going anywhere.
JOHN: You better not.
SHARLENE: I don’t care what, or who, tries to get in our way.
JOHN: Nothing’s gonna get in the way. Don’t worry about it.
JOHN’S CELL PHONE VIBRATES ON THE NIGHT STAND.
JOHN: That’s...that’s the hospital. They know I’m in Chicago tonight.
SHARLENE: No.
JOHN (answering): Dr. Hudson. Hi Maggie. What? Gregory? We’ll be right there.
SHARLENE: Gregory? Is he okay?
JOHN: Yeah and it’s not good.

AT STACEY’S APARTMENT, LINDSAY WALKS IN AND STACEY IS STILL SITTING ON THE COUCH, WEARING GLASSES WHILE READING PAPERWORK.
STACEY: You’re back early. Everything okay?
LINDSAY: Gregory was a no show.
STACEY: Did you call him?
LINDSAY: Called and texted. No response. He’s never stood me up before.
STACEY: Well honey don’t jump to conclusions. Find out what happened.
LINDSAY GETS A CALL...FROM GREGORY.
LINDSAY: Hey. Where were you? I waited at the Center for you.

AT THE HOSPITAL, GREGORY IS LYING IN A HOSPITAL BED DRESSED IN A HOSPITAL GOWN FULLY CONSCIOUS.
GREGORY: Hey. I’m at the hospital. I got into an accident.

LINDSAY: What? Oh my God. Are you alright?

GREGORY: My head hurts but I should be okay.
--
LINDSAY: I’m coming down.
STACEY: What happened?
LINDSAY: Gregory’s in the hospital.

MAGGIE WALKS IN WITH A TABLET.
GREGORY: Doc what happened? Oooooh my head.
MAGGIE: That’s why you’re here. You’re lucky to be alive. You might have a concussion, and given your medical history we’re gonna keep you overnight for observation.
GREGORY: Did you call my parents?
MAGGIE: Yeah they’re on their way.
GREGORY: Aw man I didn’t wanna ruin their night.
MAGGIE: I’m sure it’ll be okay. Is there anything else bothering you besides your head? Any other pain?
GREGORY TRIES TO ADJUST HIMSELF IN THE BED..
GREGORY: No I’m...Oh.
MAGGIE: You’re grabbing your back.
GREGORY: It’s...it’s fine.
MAGGIE: The tests didn’t reveal anything abnormal with your spine, so it’s probably just residual pain.
GREGORY: Are you gonna give me something for this? It didn’t hurt until now.
MAGGIE: Sure.
MAGGIE BEGINS TAPPING AND SWIPING IN HER TABLET.
MAGGIE: I just prescribed you some painkillers for your back. Not a high dose though.
GREGORY: Fair enough. Being that I used to be addicted to roids.
MAGGIE: Exactly. I’m gonna go confer with Dr. Mason to see about the other victim.
GREGORY: The other victim? Did I hit somebody?

MEANWHILE, THOMASINA AND BRIANNA ARE IN ANOTHER ROOM WITH CHRISTY, WHO IS WAKING UP.
THOMASINA: Mrs. Carson?
CHRISTY (groggy): What? Where am I? What happened?
THOMASINA: You’re at Bay City Medical Center. You’ve been in a car accident.
CHRISTY: Car accident?
THOMASINA: You’re very fortunate to have come out of that alive. We ran tests on you and you have no serious injuries.
CHRISTY: That’s great but...what about my...my baby? Did you save my baby?
BRIANNA: We’re sorry. We...we couldn’t save the baby.
CHRISTY: No...nooooo!!
THOMASINA: We did everything we could, but the fetus took most of the impact during the accident.
BRIANNA: We got any remaining part of it out of you, but we’re gonna keep you overnight so we can check in the morning to see if you suffer any residual effects.
THOMASINA: We’ve very sorry Mrs. Carson. Are you in any pain?
CHRISTY: Physical, no. Emotional, yes. You can’t give me any medicine for that can you?
THOMASINA: No, but we can set you up with a counselor if you need to talk to someone.
CHRISTY: No thanks. I’ve had my fill of psychiatric doctors and counselors.
THOMASINA: Brianna and I will be back to check on you.
CHRISTY: Who did this? Whoever hit me killed my baby.

AT THE BLAKES...MITCH AND DEVIN TALK WHILE FELICIA’S SLEEPS…
DEVIN: I promised my mom that I’d look after grandma but I never imagined this.
MITCH: I have no idea what she was thinking.
THEY FLASHBACK TO EARLIER IN THE EVENING…DEVIN IS DRIVING MITCH DOWN DARK AND MISTY ROUTE 17...
MITCH: What is she thinking?
DEVIN: I hope we can get to her before she...oh no….
DEVIN PULLS OVER. THEY BOTH GET OUT AND NOTICE ALL THREE CARS. MITCH LOOKS TO HIS RIGHT AND SEES SHARLENE’S CAR. HE WALKS OVER AND SEES GREGORY, WHO IS SLUMPED ON THE WHEEL UNCONSCIOUS. DEVIN WALKS OVER ABOUT 200 FEET AND SEES THE FRONT OF CHRISTY’S CAR SMASHED, AND CHRISTY IS ALSO SLUMPED ON THE WHEEL, CUTS ON HER FACE, AND UNCONSCIOUS. MITCH THEN NOTICES SOMETHING.
MITCH: Devin! Over here!
DEVIN: What the…? Grandma?
THEY BOTH SURVEY THE SITUATION QUICKLY THEN…
DEVIN: I’m gonna go get the car.
FELICIA’S CAR IS SMASHED IN THE FRONT AS HER HEAD RESTS UNCONSCIOUS ON THE DEPLOYED AIRBAG. MITCH OPENS THE DOOR AS DEVIN PULLS UP WITH THE CAR.
MITCH: Open the back door.
DEVIN: Got it.
MITCH LIES FELICIA DOWN IN THE BACKSEAT, AND DEVIN AND MITCH GO TO FELICIA’S CAR AND NOTICE A SILVER FLASK ON THE PASSENGER’S SEAT. MITCH REACHES IN AND RETRIEVES IT, AND LOOKS BACK AT DEVIN.
DEVIN: We gotta do something. If the police find this car they’ll tie this whole accident to grandma.
MITCH: A DUI would damage her career. Come help me push.
MITCH AND DEVIN GO TO THE BACK OF THE CAR, AND THEY BOTH PUSH IT JUST UNDERNEATH THE GUARD RAIL AND IT FALLS DOWN THE RAVINE AND EXPLODES.
MITCH: I know a hospital outside the city.
DEVIN: Good idea. We can’t take her to BCMC.
THEY FLASH FORWARD TO THE HOSPITAL. A SIGN ON THE WALL READS: CEDARS HOSPITAL. MITCH IS CARRYING FELICIA IN THROUGH THE EMERGENCY ROOM AND APPROACHES A WORKER.
MITCH: I’m checking my wife in. She’s been hurt.
WORKER: Okay I’ll get the doctor. What’s her name?
MITCH: Ember Snow.
THEY FLASH BACK TO THE PRESENT AS MITCH LOOKS OVER AT THE COFFEE TABLE, WITH THE SILVER FLASK ON IT.
DEVIN: We did what we had to do to protect her.
MITCH: Of course. Nobody can know she was driving.
DEVIN: Gregory and Christy didn’t look too good. Hope they’re okay.

AT THE HOSPITAL, JOHN AND SHARLENE GET OFF THE ELEVATOR AND WALK OVER TO THE NURSES STATION. BRIANNA IS THERE AND LOOKS UP AS THEY APPROACH HER.
BRIANNA: What are you guys doing here? I thought you were in Chicago.
JOHN: What room is our son in?
BRIANNA: Gregory?
SHARLENE: He got into an accident with my car.
BRIANNA: Your car?
JOHN: Yes we wanna see him.
BRIANNA: He’s...he’s in 645.
SHARLENE: Thank you Brianna.
AS JOHN AND SHARLENE WALK AWAY, BRIANNA STEPS AWAY FROM THE DESK.

BACK AT THE ACCIDENT SCENE, DANTE WALKS THROUGH THE DAMP MIST, PAST OTHER OFFICERS, AND UP TO TONI.

DANTE: That was my mother. I had to tell her to turn around and go up Route 19.
TONI: This...this scene...a little weird.
DANTE: Gregory and Christy have been taken to the hospital.
TONI: Okay. You’re going to go question them.
DANTE: Yep.
DANTE LEAVES AS TONI WALKS THE OPPOSITE WAY PAST OFFICERS AND FORENSICS PEOPLE SNAPPING PICTURES. AND LOOKS DOWN ON THE GROUND. SHE SQUATS TO TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT WHAT SHE NOTICED. SHE LOOKS BACK AT THE BENT GUARD RAIL. AN OFFICER WALKS UP TO HER.
TONI: Tibbs. This is a third set of tracks...but no car.
TIBBS: So you think this was a hit and run?
TONI: That’s what it’s looking like, and they probably caused the whole accident.
TIBBS: The other two cars have been impounded.
TONI: It’s the third car that’s gonna give us the answers.
TONI AND TIBBS WALK TO THE BENT GUARD RAIL, LOOK DOWN THE RAVINE, AND NOTICE A FIRE.
TIBBS: Could that have been the car?
TONI: Yeah, and perhaps the driver. Call the station and get a helicopter down there now. Someone could be in danger.

MEANWHILE, IN THE HOSPITAL LOCKER ROOM, BRIANNA IS ALONE AS SHE SLOWLY APPROACHES THE MIRROR.
BRIANNA: It wasn’t supposed to Gregory. It was supposed to be her. It was supposed to be Sharlene! If at first you don’t succeed. She won’t be so lucky next time.

It was like a movie. Or a special prime time episode.
ReplyDeleteThe focus was so intense and tight in the opening scene. It also moved very fast.
It gave the episode such an intense feeling and u played every angle great.
Devon and Mitch trying to cover things up. THis is not gonna be good at all esp TOni sees the fire down below. Such a powerful story. So many angles.
Christy lost her baby and she should seek revenge on Greg but it was kinda of her own doing as She was the one who got FEFE back on the sauce. SO in reality and when it all boils down this is Christy's own fault. Oh I feel so bad for her she went through so much to get that baby.
Linds learning Greg has been hurt.
I mean this episode was flawless.
Oh Dante appearing was random. Where does he live? Where did he come from?
That was an excellent episode. Everything clicked in perfectly. Wow!
ReplyDeleteThe aftermath of the accident was clear and I could picture every scene perfectly. Christy's pain at losing the baby, it's clear she's in shock, but I'll be fascinated when all the pieces come together for her. Will she blame herself? I'm fascinated by it.
Brianna finding out Sharlene wasn't the one in the accident. She's not gonna give up that easily. I can't wait to see that go down. Sooner or later, someone's got to find out she's not quite so innocent.
I actually really liked how you did the reveal that Mitch and Devin rescued Felicia from the scene. You still played the scene out, but gave us a surprise reveal and flashed back to the accident scene. It was a very smart way to do it, and it flowed beautifully.
Paulina even tying into it while coming home from Oakdale. It framed the whole episode perfectly. I can't wait to see what happens next.
All in all, a great episode, beginning to end. Great work, Cary!
