PREVIOUSLY ON ANOTHER WORLD:
  • Elizabeth was walking through the park and saw Gregory popping pills
  • Charlie Winthrop Harrison and KC Burrell applied for a Public Relations internship at Bay City Medical Center.  Chief Of Staff Thomasina Mason chose K.C., and Charlie has questions as to why she wasn't chosen

PART 1
Elizabeth Hutchins

Gregory Hudson

AT THE PARK, ELIZABETH IS WALKING AND SEES GREGORY SITTING ON A BENCH TAKING A COUPLE OF PILLS THAT T GAVE HIM.

ELIZABETH:  Hey Gregory what’s up?

GREGORY QUICKLY PUTS THE REST OF HIS PILLS IN HIS POCKET.

GREGORY:  Hey uh…Elizabeth what’s going on?
ELIZABETH:  Um not much just hangin out.  What were you taking just now?
GREGORY:  Taking what?
ELIZABETH:  I saw you put pills in your mouth like you were desperate to have them or something.
GREGORY:  Oh you mean my pain meds?  Yeah it helps me with my back pain.  My injury kinda got re-aggravated since the night of the accident.
ELIZABETH:  Oh okay cool.  Well it’s good to see ya.
GREGORY:  Yeah same here.
ELIZABETH:  I’m gonna head home.

ELIZABETH TURNS AROUND TO LEAVE THEN….

GREGORY:  Hey wait.  How are you doing…really?

----------------------------------
Dr. Thomasina Mason

KC Burrell

AT THOMASINA’S OFFICE, THOMASINA IS WITH K.C. BURRELL.

THOMASINA:  I want you to prepare a statement on Mr. Graves for the press conference.
K.C.:  Is that the…?
THOMASINA:  The CEO guy?  Yes.  Here’s the number for his publicist.
K.C.:  Good.  I’m sure the public wants to know about how he’s coming along.
THOMASINA:  It doesn’t have to be a huge to-do; just a simple statement.  Nothing too alarming though.
K.C.:  Gotcha.  I’ll get with his publicist.
THOMASINA:  Sounds good.

KC TURNS TO LEAVE AND THOMASINA STOPS HER.

THOMASINA:  Hey you…you seem a little nervous.  Don’t worry about it you’re gonna do great.  I got every confidence in you.

KC BREATHES A SIGH OF RELIEF.

KC:  Wow thank you Dr. Mason.  I did have some jitters.
THOMASINA:   You got this girl.  Don’t let anyone intimidate you.  Nurses, doctors, no one.  I support you one hundred percent.
K.C.: How do you suggest I handle them?
THOMASINA:  If anyone questions you about a press release, you tell them to come and talk to me.

Frankie Frame

Charlie Winthrop Harrison
AT THE CENTER, FRANKIE IS WALKING AND TALKING ON HER SMART PHONE.

FRANKIE:  Yeah I need a check on Brianna Jameson.  Send it to my phone.  Thanks.

FRANKIE THEN WALKS TO CHARLIE’S TABLE AND SITS ACROSS FROM HER.

FRANKIE:  Got you a cup o joe.
CHARLIE:  Thank you.

FRANKIE PUTS THE CUP ON THE TABLE IN FRONT OF CHARLIE.

FRANKIE:  I’m…happy you decided to come and spend time with me.

CHARLIE STARES OFF INTO THE SHORT DISTANCE.

CHARLIE:  Yeah.
FRANKIE:  Charlie are you here?  I mean you haven’t even taken a sip of your latte.
CHARLIE:  I’m…I don’t want it.

MEANWHILE, RUSS MATTHEWS IS WALKING AND TALKING ON HIS CELL PHONE.
Dr. Russ Matthews

RUSS:  When are we going to out to dinner?...Come on Iris you can’t be that busy.  Good I…I’m glad I was able to convince you.  I’ll pick you up at eight.
FRANKIE:  What’s wrong?  Are you okay?
CHARLIE:  I’m thinking about what I’m going to ask Dr. Mason.  I mean how could she have given that P.R. internship to K.C. Burrell.

RUSS HEARS CHARLIE AND STOPS.

FRANKIE:  You told her you took classes in school right?
CHARLIE:  Yeah of course I did.  I just…I thought I would be a shoo in for it.
FRANKIE:  Well I think it’s good that you’re gonna go talk to her.
CHARLIE:  I just need a plausible explanation.  I really wanted that position.
FRANKIE:  Don’t worry honey you’ll…there’s something better for you out there.

RUSS LEAVES AND BRYANT KRAMER WALKS UP TO THEM.

BRYANT:  Hey it’s you.

FRANKIE LOOKS UP AT BRYANT IN AMAZEMENT.
Bryant Kramer

CHARLIE:  Do you…know us?
BRYANT:  Not you, but I know this woman.
CHARLIE:  Mom, do you know who this is?
FRANKIE:  Yep…I do.

FRANKIE GETS UP AND THEY HUG.

FRANKIE:  This is Bryant…Bryant Kramer.   Bryant this is Charlie…my daughter.

BRYANT EXTENDS HIS RIGHT HAND OUT TO CHARLIE AND SHE DOES THE SAME.

BRYANT:  Nice to meet you…Charlie.
CHARLIE:  Well I’m gonna…head over to the hospital.
FRANKIE:  Alright honey.  You’re not gonna drink your coffee?
CHARLIE:  No.  I’m sorry mom.  Nice to meet you Bryant.  See you guys later.

CHARLIE TAKES A FEW STEPS AWAY FROM FRANKIE AND BRYANT, AND LEANS UP AGAINST A BEAM TO PROP HERSELF.

CHARLIE:  Oh I feel like I’m gonna…throw up.

AT THE NURSES STATION, K.C. IS THERE WITH HER TABLET ON HER CELL PHONE.

K.C.:  Yeah maybe we can meet in the caf.  We can go over what you want to be said in the press release on Mr. Graves’ condition.  Alright I’ll see ya.

KC TURNS AROUND AND SEES RUSS MATTHEWS.

RUSS:  Hi KC.
K.C.:  Dr. Matthews.
RUSS:  I heard you mention Mr. Graves.  Are you talking about Paul Graves?
K.C.:  Yes we’re…preparing a press release for him.
RUSS:  I don’t think that’s a good idea.
K.C.:  It’s not gonna be a detailed one.  Just to let the people know that he’s fine and he’s doing well.
RUSS:  I’m sorry I don’t agree with that and I think you should call off the press conference.
K.C.:  Well I can’t do that?
RUSS:  Who authorized you to prepare a statement for my patient?

THOMASINA WALKS UP TO THEM.

THOMASINA:  I did.

CAMERA PAN ON THOMASINA…SLOW FADE TO THEME SONG.

------------------------

ELIZABETH:  I’m…I’m good.
GREGORY:  You know we were all there when your father passed away.  I heard a whole lot of things about Carl when I was growing up but…he’s still your dad.
ELIZABETH:  Yep a lot has been said about him but…I still miss him.   He and I were close.
GREGORY:  I could see how devastated everybody was.
ELIZABETH:  Every day it gets a little easier but…the void is still there.
GREGORY:  I can’t imagine what it would be like to lose my dad.  I mean I…he’s been my rock all my life, especially when my mom was gone and going through her illness.  I don’t know what I’d do without him.  You’re lucky that you have a good support system.
ELIZABETH:  Yeah it helps.
GREGORY:  I don’t wanna keep you but if…if you need a friend…someone to talk to…you can call or text me.  Seriously…hit me up.
ELIZABETH:  I’ll…keep that in mind.

-----------

FRANKIE:  Bryant I...it’s good to see you.  How are you doing?
BRYANT:  I’m great.  Fresh outta college.
FRANKIE:  You graduated?  Congratulations.  I’m proud of you.  I know you worked very hard for it.  What are you doing now?
BRYANT:  Looking for a job.
FRANKIE:  Any leads?
BRYANT:  A few I gotta follow up with.  Nothing concrete at the moment.  I missed you at my graduation.
FRANKIE:  I’m sorry about that.  I didn’t even know when it was taking place.
BRYANT:  That’s surprising.  Brad didn’t tell you?
FRANKIE:  O’Neill?  Why would he be telling me?
BRYANT:  You didn’t know?  He’s here…in Bay City.  He and my mom came to see me walk across the stage.

FRANKIE IS SHOCKED TO HEAR THAT THE MAN SHE IS TRYING TO DIVORCE IS IN BAY CITY.

FRANKIE:  How is he?  Is…is he well?
BRYANT:  Yeah he’s fine.  He’s as strong as ever.  He…hasn’t said anything about his leukemia.  As far as I know he’s still in remission.
FRANKIE:  Oh okay…good.
BRYANT:  Have you gotten in touch with Cass Winthrop?
FRANKIE:  Charlie’s father?  Yes we’re back together.  In fact we’re engaged to be married.
BRYANT:  So you and Brad are officially divorced now?

FRANKIE DOESN’T ANSWER AND JUST LOOKS AT BRYANT.

BRYANT:  Cass proposed to you and you’re not divorced?   He doesn’t know does he?  Cass doesn’t know that you’re still married to Brad.
FRANKIE:  No he doesn’t.  Besides I’ve filed for divorce.
BRYANT:  Well aren’t you gonna tell him?
FRANKIE:  No I’m going to tell Cass…until after the divorce is final.
BRYANT:  Why not?  Oh my God…Frankie don’t tell me you still have feelings for Brad.

-----------------------------------------------------

AT THE NURSES STATION, KC IS SWIPING HER TABLET WHEN CHARLIE WALKS UP TO HER.

CHARLIE:  KC.
KC:  Hey Charlie what’s up?
CHARLIE:  Hey have you seen Dr. Mason?
KC:  Yeah she and Dr. Matthews went to her office.
CHARLIE:  Oh good.  I need to talk to her.
KC:  She’s in her office, and it seems like she and Dr. Matthews are about to have it out.

IN THOMASINA’S OFFICE…

THOMASINA:  Is there a problem Dr. Matthews?
RUSS:  How could you approve a press release on my patient?
THOMASINA:  Because I’m the Chief of Staff and I can make decisions such as that.
RUSS:  Have you even taken into consideration how the family might feel about it?  Do they want Mr. Graves’s health condition released to the public?
THOMASINA:  We’ve already spoken with his wife and she seemed fine with it.
RUSS:  He and his wife are separated.  I mean this is…this is just one of the bonehead…

RUSS STOPS AND THOMASINA FOCUSES ON RUSS.

THOMASINA:  Excuse me?  You can go ahead and say it Dr. Matthews.  Tell me how you really feel.
RUSS:  Look, with all due respect, things have been happening at the hospital since you took over as Chief of Staff.  The security breach being one of them.
THOMASINA:  And if you were in my position you would have prevented it?
RUSS:  It happened under your watch.
THOMASINA:  It’s not my fault that the board did not approve funding for a firewall until after the breach occurred, and nobody’s patient information was compromised…not that I have to explain this to you.
RUSS:  I am a well-respected doctor in this hospital so yes, you do owe me an explanation as to why the operations are failing.
THOMASINA:  Tell me Dr. Matthews, why you question my ability to run Bay City Medical Center huh?
RUSS:  You want my honest answer?  I think the board made a mistake in hiring you as Chief of Staff.
THOMASINA:  And are you sure that’s all of it?
RUSS:  Not only did the security breach happen on your watch, you approved a press release for my patient without even consulting me.

CHARLIE SLOWLY APPROACHES THE DOOR TO THOMASINA’S OFFICE, AND DECIDES TO LISTEN AS THE CONVERSATION BETWEEN RUSS AND THOMASINA ESCALATES.

THOMASINA:  I only will consult on Mr. Graves’s treatment, not press releases.
RUSS:  You are clearly not qualified to run this hospital.
THOMASINA:  I’m sorry that you are still bitter over the board’s decision to choose me over you as Chief of Staff, but I have a theory as to why.
RUSS:  And what would that be?

THOMASINA FOLDS HER ARMS AND FACES RUSS.

THOMASINA:  Oh so you’re afraid to admit it, because I’m gonna say it.  You hate that you have to report to a black woman!

CHARLIE, WHO IS LISTENING OUTSIDE, OPENS HER MOUTH IN AMAZEMENT AFTER HEARING THOMASINA’S STATEMENT.

  1. That's an intense ending.

So I am curious to know if Elizabeth will open up to Gregory. They could be a very interesting relationship as things develop. Gregory's addiction is becoming a problem already, thanks to Brianna.

I enjoyed Frankie and Charlie meeting Bryant. The fact Cass hasn't been told about her marriage to Bradley is a huge problem, one I'm sure will be brought to light at exactly the wrong time. A great tension there. I also liked how that fed into Charlie's trouble with the internship rejection. Charlie knew something was off. But now it's clear.

The scenes between Russ and Thomasina were intense. Thomasina didn't mince words with Russ, though I have a feeling Russ has some slight resentment at Thomasina winning the job over him, and is in some ways looking for problems with Thomasina's way of running the hospital, I am certain Russ won't see it as plainly as Thomasina does, and now Charlie has a clear picture of what's going on too. Things are about to get a whole lot more difficult for Thomasina! With poor KC in the middle.

Another great, concise episode with a great ending!
