Matt unwittingly saves Maggie’s life
Dante warns Elizabeth

PREVIOUSLY ON ANOTHER WORLD

·         Elizabeth and Dante found Gregory passed out in the park due to an overdose.
·         Brianna hacked into John’s doctor portal and wrote a prescription for Felicia (at the direction of Christy Carson)
·         Bridget woke up out of her doctor induced coma after an anaphylactic episode due to an antibiotic.  The antibiotic was prescribed to her because Michele switched her tests to show that Bridget had chlamydia.  It was later revealed that Bridget never had it

PART 1

AT THE CORY ESTATE, GREGORY IS SLEEPING AS ELIZABETH SITS AT HIS BEDSIDE.  DANTE WALKS IN AND OBSERVES ELIZABETH.
Elizabeth Hutchins

Dante Carlino

ELIZABETH:  So what are you gonna do?

ELIZABETH TURNS TO FACE DANTE.

ELIZABETH:  Are you gonna take him in when he wakes up?
DANTE:  He gave me the information I needed.
ELIZABETH:  He’s sleeping peacefully.  He’ll be fine once he wakes up.  He probably won’t even remember what happened.
DANTE:  He has to get help, and you can’t give him what he needs.
ELIZABETH:  You don’t know that.
DANTE:   I saw the way you were looking at him when I walked in.  Lizzie, this is not the road you wanna go down.
ELIZABETH:  He just needs a friend.  Someone he can count on.
DANTE:  He’s got a whole family structure in this town.  His parents; his father’s side of the family.
ELIZABETH:  And you think he’s comfortable going to them with this?  Do you think he can go to his girlfriend?  She’d leave him.  I’m gonna stand by him.  I’m gonna help him get through this.
DANTE:  What if he doesn’t return your loyalty?  What if it’s conditional?  Are you ready for that?  Because trust me.  You don’t want someone who doesn’t return the love that you give them.

DANTE PUTS ON HIS JACKET.

ELIZABETH:  Text me in the morning?
DANTE:  Yeah.
ELIZABETH:  Hey Dante.  You’re a good friend.  Thank you.

DANTE LEAVES.

----------------------------------------------------

AT THE HOSPITAL, THOMASINA IS IN HER OFFICE WHEN JOHN WALKS IN.

John Hudson

Thomasina Mason

JOHN:  Dr. Mason you summoned?
THOMASINA:  Please sit down.

JOHN SITS IN THE CHAIR ACROSS FROM THOMASINA.

JOHN:  Sounds serious.
THOMASINA:  Very.

THOMASINA GIVES JOHN A PIECE OF PAPER AND JOHN READS IT.

JOHN:  What’s this about?   Flurazepam?
THOMASINA:  Did you prescribe it to Felicia Gallant?
JOHN:  No.  No of course not.
THOMASINA:  It says it on that paper that you did.
JOHN:  But I never did that.  I didn’t authorize that.
THOMASINA:   It came from your doctor portal.
JOHN:  That’s what it looks like but I never did this.
THOMASINA:  Dr. Hudson you are the only one who has access to your portal.
JOHN:  Someone had to have hacked into it.  There have been questions about cybersecurity here lately, especially with that breach.
THOMASINA:  I had I.T. do a keyboard trace.  Someone used your password.  Could it have been the same one that you left on your sticky note?

JOHN SIGHS.

THOMASINA:  I told you not to leave that lying around.
JOHN:  Alright so what happens now?
THOMASINA:  The board has made a recommendation.
JOHN:  And what is that?
THOMASINA:  That I suspend you pending the outcome of this investigation.
JOHN:  Who could possibly have done this?

--------------------------------------------------

AT THE HOSPITAL, MICHELE IN BRIDGET’S ROOM AS BRIDGET LIES IN THE BED.

Bridget McKinnon

Michele McKinnon

MICHELE:  I don’t know what you want me to tell you.  We argued and you passed out.
BRIDGET:  What did we argue about?
MICHELE:  The same thing we’ve been arguing about since I got back.  You saw me with Cory and you got angry.  I see where this is going and I really don’t wanna go down that road.

MICHELE TURNS AROUND TO LEAVE.

BRIDGET:  Michele wait.  We’re not done yet.

MICHELE TURNS AROUND AND FACES BRIDGET.  SHE FOLDS HER ARMS.

MICHELE:  What is it?
BRIDGET:  Look I’m not trying to make trouble or pick a fight.
MICHELE:  God knows we’ve done enough of that.
BRIDGET:  You were the only one there, and I’m trying to just piece together everything that lead up to me passing out.
MICHELE:  I don’t know what else to tell you.  I mean, we argued and you collapsed.
BRIDGET:  What were we arguing about?
MICHELE:  What do you think?
BRIDGET:  Michele please.  I need to remember.  I don’t want things to be the way they were.

MICHELE’S EYES WELL UP WITH TEARS.

MICHELE:  I don’t either.  I know how much we fought, but you have to know that I never wanted this.  I didn’t want you to end up in a coma.
BRIDGET:  It was the antibiotics that caused it.  There was nothing you could’ve done.
MICHELE:  I’m so relieved that you’re okay.
BRIDGET:  Me, too.  Maybe we’re finally getting to a better place.
MICHELE:  Yeah.  I think I’d like that.  I’m sorry I…couldn’t tell you more about what happened in front of the Corys.
BRIDGET:  It’s alright.  Maybe it’ll come to me.
MICHELE:  Yeah.  Well I’m gonna…go.
BRIDGET:  Okay.

MICHELE WALKS UP TO HER, AND BRIDGET RAISES UP OUT OF THE BED, AND THEY HUG AS JAKE WATCHES FROM OUTSIDE, AND SMILES.

---------------------------------------------------

BRIANNA WALKS INSIDE MAGGIE’S ROOM.  MAGGIE IS HOOKED UP TO A BEEPING VENTILATOR AS SHE LIES UNCONSCIOUS.  BRIANNA SLOWLY WALKS UP TO MAGGIE, AND LEANS IN.

Maggie Winthrop

Brianna Jameson

BRIANNA:  You’re awfully hard to kill.

BRIANNA STRAIGHTENS BACK UP.

BRIANNA:  You just had to be a pest.  Like an annoying little bug buzzing in my ear.  I tried to swat you away several times.  I didn’t want it to come to this.  I didn’t want to do what I had to do…to you, but you forced me.  Actually, Christy forced me.  She knew the truth.  Your knight in shining armor may have rescued you from Wood Pines but…

BRIANNA LEANS INTO MAGGIE’S FACE AND WHISPERS.

BRIANNA:  There’s nothing he can do for you now.

BRIANNA STRAIGHTENS BACK UP, AND REACHES INTO HER PURSE.   SHE TAKES OUT A NEEDLE, AND WALKS UP TO MAGGIE’S I.V.

BRIANNA:  You lose Maggie.

SUDDENLY MATT WALKS IN WITH FLOWERS.

Matt Cory

MATT:  Brianna?  What are you doing?

CAMERA PAN ON BRIANNA.  SLOW FADE OUT.  FADE IN TO THEME SONG

-------------------------------------------

PART 2

THOMASINA:  I have no idea.  For the record, I fought for you.  I don’t think you would have prescribed Felicia anything without a valid reason.
JOHN:  I’m sorry, this is just taking me completely by surprise.  I certainly wouldn’t have prescribed that type of drug if I knew she was gonna try to kill herself.
THOMASINA:  You and I both know that Dr. Hudson, but what it looks like to the board is that you did it.  The portals are very secure.  That’s why I told you to not leave your password on a sticky note in your office.
JOHN:  My office is door is locked when I’m not here.  Someone broke in, hacked into my portal, and authorized the drug.
THOMASINA:  We will find out whoever did that, but access to your portal is your responsibility.  One of the first things they tell you is…
JOHN:  Yeah yeah I know.  Not to write your password down.  So the board recommended that you suspend me.
THOMASINA:  They recommended it, but I managed to convince them otherwise.
JOHN:  You did that for me?
THOMASINA:  If it weren’t for you I would probably be pulling my hair out.  A lot has gone on since I took over as Chief of Staff.  You’ve helped things to go a little smoother, so fighting for you against the board wasn’t a difficult choice.
JOHN:  I don’t know how to thank you.
THOMASINA:  Don’t mention it.

THOMASINA SMILES AND JOHN SMILES BACK.

 ------------------------------------------------

ELIZABETH PAYS VIGIL TO GREGORY AS HE SLEEPS WHEN SOMEONE KNOCKS ON THE DOOR.  ELIZABETH GOES AND OPENS IT.
Gregory Hudson

ELIZABETH:  Hey.

MICHELE WALKS IN AND ELIZABETH SHUTS THE DOOR BEHIND HER.

MICHELE:  Oh my God.
ELIZABETH:  What?
MICHELE:  Why is Gregory sleeping in this bed?
ELIZABETH:  Long story.
MICHELE:  Mmmmm.
ELIZABETH:  I can’t go into details.
MICHELE:  That’s my sister’s boyfriend and he’s sleeping in this bed on your mom’s estate?  What am I supposed to think?
ELIZABETH:  You think I’m sleeping with him?  No that’s not happening.
MICHELE:  Then why is he here?
ELIZABETH:  Okay.  Dante and I were taking a walk, and we found him passed out in the park.
MICHELE:  And instead of calling his parents, you took him here.
ELIZABETH:  Come on Michele.  Don’t interrogate me.
MICHELE:  You like Gregory don’t you?
ELIZABETH:  Alright alright.  I like him.

MEANWHILE, GREGORY, WHO IS UNDER THE BLANKET, OPENS HIS EYES AS HE HEARD WHAT ELIZABETH SAID.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

BRIANNA QUICKLY SLIPS THE NEEDLE INTO HER PURSE, TURNS AROUND AND FACES MATT.

BRIANNA:  Matthew.  Well this is a pleasant surprise.
MATT:  Came to see Maggie.  What’s your excuse?
BRIANNA:  Same thing.  Maggie and I have gotten to know each other over the past few months.

MATT GRABS THE EMPTY VASE ON THE NIGHTSTAND AND GOES TO THE SINK.  HE FILLS THE VASE UP WITH WATER AND PLACES THE FLOWERS IN IT.

MATT:  She’s had it rough lately.  First she gets suspended from the hospital, and then this.

MATT PLACES THE VASE ON THE NIGHTSTAND AS THEY BOTH FACE MAGGIE.

BRIANNA:  They said they found her in the hospital basement.  Somebody locked her in there.
MATT:  What?  Are you serious?
BRIANNA:  Thank God the hospital staff found her in time or she might have frozen to death.
MATT:  Yeah.  Thank God she survived.
BRIANNA:  She…cares about you.
MATT:  Maggie’s family.
BRIANNA:  I care about you, too.

BRIANNA WALKS UP TO MATT AND MATT PUTS HIS ARMS AROUND HER.

MATT:  Likewise.

THEY KISS.

BRIANNA:  You know I’m gonna…get out of here.
MATT:  Going home?
BRIANNA:  Yeah.
MATT:  Maybe I can…drop by a little later.
BRIANNA:  Hmmm I think I’d like that.

BRIANNA SMILES AND KISSES MATT.

BRIANNA:  See ya later?

MATT SMILES.

MATT:  Yeah.

--------------------------------------------

BRIANNA WALKS OUT OF THE ROOM, AND PAST THE GUARD.  SUDDENLY, DANTE AND TWO OFFICERS APPROACH HER.

DANTE:  Brianna Jameson.
BRIANNA:  Who wants to know?

DANTE HOLDS UP HIS BADGE.

DANTE:  Detective Dante Carlino.  Bay City Police.
BRIANNA:  What’s this about?
DANTE:  Is there someplace private we can go to?
BRIANNA:  You still haven’t told me what this is about.
DANTE:  We can talk here or at the station, but we have to talk…now.

In this episode:  KC Burrell, Allen Love, Toni Burrell, Joy Kramer, Steven Frame, Thomasina Mason, Lily Mason, Jake McKinnon, Bridget McKinnon, Michele McKinnon

Steven and Joy argue about Vicky and Lily
Jake begins to ask questions about the security breach

 PREVIOUSLY ON ANOTHER WORLD

  • KC Burrell and Eric Stenbeck were seeing each other, despite warnings from Allen and Toni for KC to stop seeing Eric.  Eric left Bay City after he realized he could not have a romantic relationship with Kirkland, whom Eric was blackmailing for sex.  Eric has not contacted KC since before he left.
  • Lily Mason, who lived in Bay City in the 1980s, returned to make amends with her daughter, Joy Kramer.
  • Jake was suspicious of Michele's behavior after Bridget's anaphylactic episode.  Bridget was rushed to the hospital and put into a medically induced coma.  She has been taken out of that coma and is now ready to go home.

PART 1

AT TONI’S HOUSE, KC AND ALLEN WALK IN.

Toni Burrell

Allen Love

KC Burrell

KC:  I can’t believe he did this.  He just ghosted me.
ALLEN:  I’m sorry that this happened to you.
KC:  So what are you gonna say?  I told you so?
ALLEN:  No.  Not yet.
KC:  I knew it was coming.
ALLEN:  I told you he wasn’t any good for you.  Your mother and I both were telling you.
KC:  I don’t even know what I was thinking.  Eric is part Stenbeck and part Christy.
ALLEN:  Marked at birth.
KC:  He and his mother crashed Kirkland and Charlie’s wedding reception.  I should have known he was no good then.  How could I have been so stupid?
ALLEN:  Don’t say that.
KC:  Well it’s true.  You and mom were trying to warn me about Eric and I didn’t listen.

TONI WALKS IN.

TONI:  That’s right.  Allen what are you doing here?  When did you get back to town?

ALLEN:  Earlier.

TONI TAKES OFF HER JACKET.

TONI:  KC what happened?
KC:  What didn’t happen?
TONI:  I dunno you gotta tell me.
ALLEN:  Eric ghosted her.
KC:  I hadn’t heard anything from him.  We went to his apartment and someone else was living there.  He was gone.  No call.  No text.  No nothing.
TONI:  Oh wow.  I’m sorry about that, but your father and I told you…
KC:  You told me so.  I know.
ALLEN:  Look you…you’re going to school; you got a great internship at the hospital.
TONI:  He’s right.  You’ve got too much going for you to worry about some guy, especially one like Eric Stenbeck.
KC:  I get it okay.  I really do.  Oh dad didn’t tell you that we ran into that girl at the Center.  Remember the one who said I broke her cell phone?
TONI:  Joy Kramer?
KC:  Yeah.  I saw her and dad talking.

--------------------------------------------------------

AT STEVEN’S LOFT, JOY IS SITTING ON THE COUCH WHEN STEVEN BRINGS TWO BOWLS FULL OF POPCORN.
Joy Kramer

Steven Frame

JOY:  I didn’t start the movie yet.

STEVEN GIVES JOY HER BOWL OF POPCORN.

STEVEN:  How considerate of you.
JOY:  Oooh my feel good food.  I should call you the thoughtful one.  You didn’t put butter on mine.
STEVEN:  You’re the only person in the world that doesn’t like butter on her popcorn.
JOY:  You know what you signed up for.
STEVEN:  Weirdness.
JOY:  I guess so.
STEVEN:  So popcorn’s your feel good snack?  Is that to imply you’re feeling bad?

JOY SIGHS.

JOY:  As you probably can imagine I was thinking about my mother.
STEVEN:  I wasn’t trying to bring it up.  Whenever you feel comfortable talking about it, I’m here.
JOY:  You’re so good to me.  Actually I…feel very comfortable.
STEVEN:  Thinking about your mom?
JOY:  After all these years, she shows up and tells me she has cancer, and asks for my forgiveness.  What am I supposed to do?
STEVEN:  Might not be what you wanna hear but, maybe you should…let her off the hook.
JOY:  Easy for you to say.  Was it easy for you to forgive your mother?
STEVEN:  Why would I need to forgive my mother?
JOY:  Because she shipped you off to Paris like a package to live with your father in favor of Kirkland.  If I were you I’d be feeling some kind of way about that.

JOY GETS UP FROM THE COUCH.

 ----------------------------------------------------

AT THOMASINA’S HOUSE, THOMASINA IS APPLYING SOME FINAL MAKEUP TOUCHES WHEN LILY MASON WALKS IN FROM THE GUEST ROOM.

Thoamsina Mason

Lily Mason

THOMASINA:  Are you enjoying yourself?
LILY:  Ohh child that bed you got in that guest room is comfortable.  Is that one of them memory foam beds?
THOMASINA:  Yes ma’am.
LILY:  You heard from my daughter?
THOMASINA:  I haven’t heard from her.  She’s probably with Steven.  Why don’t you call her?
LILY:  Like she’s really gon’ answer the phone.
THOMASINA:  I mean, Aunt Lily, you did kinda drop a huge bomb on her.
LILY:  I did what was best for her, and I’m very grateful to you and Carter for raising her.  The way I was living, there was no way I could’ve given her the life that you gave her.
THOMASINA:  You gotta give her some time to process it.  For what it’s worth, I think she’ll eventually come around.  I’m headed to the hospital.
LILY:  You got something to eat?  I’m hungry.
THOMASINA:  You know where the food is.  See you later.

THOMASINA WALKS TO THE DOOR.

LILY:  Thomasina.

 THOMASINA TURNS AROUND.

LILY:  Thanks for everything.  I love you.
THOMASINA (smiling):  I love you, too.
----------------------------------------

AT THE HOSPITAL, JAKE IS THERE WITH BRIDGET AS BRIDGET LIES IN THE HOSPITAL BED.  JAKE SITS AT HER BEDSIDE ON A STOOL.

Bridget McKinnon

Jake McKinnon

BRIDGET:  I don’t think I’m ready to receive mom yet.
JAKE:  Sweetheart you can’t be like that.
BRIDGET:  Mom has mistreated me ever since Michele’s memorial service.  She blamed me for the accident and she embarrassed me in front of the whole town.
JAKE:  So you don’t forgive her?
BRIDGET:  I don’t know yet dad.  Does that make me a bad person?
JAKE:  You and Vicky haven’t had a great relationship to say the least.  It’s going to take some time for you to rebuild it.
BRIDGET:  I’m not ready to forgive mom yet.

MICHELE WALKS IN.

Michele McKinnon

MICHELE:  What about me?
JAKE:  Hey you.
BRIDGET:  Michele.
MICHELE:  You called?
JAKE:  Maybe I…should leave you two alone.  You guys are gonna be fine here?
MICHELE:  We’ll be okay dad.
JAKE:  Alright.

JAKE GETS UP AND LEAVES.

MICHELE:  Hey.  Dad called me.
BRIDGET:  Yeah I wanted to talk to you.

CAMERA PAN ON BRIDGET.  SLOW FADE OUT.  FADE IN TO THEME SONG.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PART 2

TONI:  Oh.
ALLEN:  She’s dating my cousin Steven.
TONI:  Well that’s good.
KC:  I don’t know.  Something about her isn’t right.
TONI:  Are you basing that judgment on that incident in the Center?
KC:  I don’t know.  I mean…she was real nasty and condescending toward me.
ALLEN:  Maybe she was just having a bad day.
TONI:  She was kind of mean about it.  I paid her off.
KC:  Oh you should have seen her.  Crying her little tears and dad comforting her.  She was probably playing it all up.
TONI:  Come on now you’re starting trouble.
ALLEN:  It wasn’t even like that.  I’m gonna get out of here.

ALLEN KISSES KC ON HER LEFT CHEEK.

KC:  Thanks dad.  Love you.
ALLEN:  Love you, too.
TONI:  Hey can we…talk for a minute.

TONI LOOKS AT KC.

TONI:  In private.
KC:  Oh sorry.  I’ll go to my room.

KC SMILES THEN LEAVES THEM ALONE.

TONI:  So where are my souvenirs?
ALLEN:  Whatchu talking about?
TONI:  You went all the way to Geneva and didn’t bring me anything back?
ALLEN:  I’m all you need.
TONI:  Uh huh.  Hey listen.  I’ve been doing some thinking while you were gone, and I…realized that I…still have feelings for you.
ALLEN:  Really?
TONI:  I guess just…with KC settling in, knowing the truth about being our daughter.  I never really got a chance to be in a family outside of my mom and Judy.
ALLEN:  Are you sure about what your feelings are?
TONI:  Do you think I’m talking about the house, kids, dog, and white picket fence?  Oh no I’m way past that.

THEY LAUGH.

TONI:  I know how I feel.  I just wasn’t sure whether to tell you.
ALLEN:  Because you think I still have feelings for Amanda.
TONI:  Yeah that pretty much sums it up.  So…do you?
ALLEN:  We broke up before she went to help her daughter.  While I was gone, spending time with my mother I…realized that I can’t dwell on the past anymore.

ALLEN WALKS CLOSER TO TONI.

ALLEN:  And that I no longer have feelings for Amanda, and that I…want us to try again.  That is of course if you want to?
TONI:  Naaaah I was just kidding when I told you how I felt.

THEY BOTH LAUGH AND KISS.  KC WATCHES THEM AND SMILES.

 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

JOY IS FACING AWAY FROM STEVEN.

STEVEN:  And what’s that supposed to mean?

JOY TURNS AROUND AND FACES STEVEN.

JOY:  You mean to tell me you don’t feel any kind of resentment toward your mother sending you away.
STEVEN:  Is that how you think I should feel?
JOY:  I don’t know Steven I’m not you.
STEVEN:  You’re not talking about me are you?  You’re talking about you and your mother.
JOY:  Look I don’t know.
STEVEN:  Do you want to walk around with this…this…chip on your shoulder for the rest of your life?  I did feel some kind of way about my mother sending me to Paris to live with my dad, but after I talked to her, I understood why she did it.
JOY:  There’s no justification for what Lily did.
STEVEN:  You can’t go back and change anything Joy.  Are you really gonna hold this grudge against her forever?  You said she has cancer.  What if she dies and you haven’t resolved your issues with her?  I don’t think that’s something you want.
JOY:  Do you really know what I want?  Is that a psychoanalysis doctor?
STEVEN:  You refuse to listen to me don’t you?
JOY:  You’re not getting it.
STEVEN:  No you’re not getting it.  You can’t change what your mother did, but your healing is your responsibility.  It looks like you’re shirking it.

JOY GRABS HER COAT AND WALKS TO THE DOOR.

JOY:  I see we’re not getting anywhere here.
STEVEN:  Where are you going?
JOY:  Anywhere but here.
STEVEN:  So you’re gonna walk out because you don’t like what I’m telling you?

JOY TURNS AROUND AND FACES STEVEN.

JOY:  You refuse to see things from my point of view.
STEVEN:  Well I think your point of view is wrong.
JOY:  Everybody’s entitled to their opinion.
STEVEN:  Joy wait.

 JOY LEAVES.

 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AT THE HOSPITAL, THOMASINA WALKS UP TO THE NURSES’ STATION WHEN JAKE WALKS UP TO HER.

JAKE:  Dr. Mason.
THOMASINA:  Jake hi.
JAKE:  Are you headed to your office?
THOMASINA:  Yeah.  Do you have a concern about Bridget?
JAKE:  It has something to do with her yes.
THOMASINA:  Since Bridget’s awake, and she’s of age, I can’t tell you any medical record.
JAKE:  I’m aware and I appreciate that you wanna protect my daughter’s health information, but this isn’t about HIPAA.
THOMASINA:  Then what is it about?
JAKE:  Security breach.
THOMASINA:  I’m sorry I can’t go into that with you either.  The I.T. department is still investigating.
JAKE:  I’m not asking for any top secret intel, I just need to know when it happened.
THOMASINA:  I thought you said this has something to do with Bridget.  Do you think her information might have been compromised?
JAKE:  I don’t really know.   I’m just trying to put together a timeline.  Bridget had an appointment with her O.B. doctor, and then shortly after that, Dr. Davidson told her she had chlamydia, and then they find out that she didn’t.
THOMASINA:  I know all about that.  Mistakes happen.
JAKE:  Maybe it...it wasn’t a mistake at all.  If the security breach happened after Bridget had her test…
THOMASINA:  Are you suggesting that someone hacked into the system to hurt Bridget on purpose?
JAKE:  I hope I’m wrong.
THOMASINA:  Listen I’ll…when I hear something I’ll let you know.  I hope that isn’t the case.
JAKE:  Me, too.

THOMASINA GOES TO HER OFFICE.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MICHELE:  What about?
BRIDGET:  I’m just trying to kinda retrace my steps about what happened in front of the Corys.
MICHELE:  Well you…you know what happened.  You collapsed.  You had an anaphylactic episode.
BRIDGET:   I remember seeing you with Cory, and then we argued.  I couldn’t breathe and then I collapsed.  I don’t quite remember what lead up to it.  I was hoping you could tell me.

ANOTHER WORLD 314 Charlie considers legal action against the hospital

ANOTHER WORLD 314

Created by:  William J. Bell and Irna Phillips

Fanfic Written by:  C. Nathaniel Richardson

Consultants:  A. Washington Beeby, ML Cooks, and Nick Monarco

Characters in this episode:  Lindsay Winthrop, Charlie Winthrop Harrison, Kirkland Harrison, Donna Love, Bridget McKinnon, Jake McKinnon, Michele McKinnon

PREVIOUSLY ON ANOTHER WORLD

Charlie was not hired for a hospital internship position, and overheard Thomasina Mason state that she didn’t hire Charlie because she was white

Many years ago, Reginald Love, Donna’s father, showed Donna a picture, presumably of her missing third child, which made Donna hysterical at the time.  The child is a triplet of Vicky and Marley.

Michele and Bridget’s feud hit a high point when Bridget collapsed in front of the Corys.  Michele switched Bridget’s OB test to make it look like Bridget had chlamydia.  Bridget was prescribed antibiotics and suffered a severe allergic reaction.  It was late discovered that Bridget never had chlamydia

PART 1

AT KIRKLAND AND CHARLIE’S SUITE, SOMEONE RINGS THE DOORBELL.  CHARLIE OPENS THE DOOR AND SEES LINDSAY CARRYING A BAG.

Lindsay Winthrop

Charlie Winthrop Harrison

LINDSAY:  I come bearing gifts.

LINDSAY WALKS IN AS CHARLIE SMILES.  CHARLIE SHUTS THE DOOR AFTER LINDSAY WALKS IN.

LINDSAY:  I’ve got cobb salad.

CHARLIE:  Wait I thought I asked you to pick up burgers and fries.

LINDSAY:  Oh the salad’s for me.

LINDSAY WALKS OVER TO THE TABLE.  SHE STARTS TAKING THE CONTAINERS OF FOOD OUT OF THE BAG AND PLACES EACH ITEM ON IT.

CHARLIE:  Okay I was gonna say.  Did you get the ice cream?

LINDSAY:  They didn’t have Rocky Road so I got…

CHARLIE:  Butter pecan.

LINDSAY:  I know my cousin well.

CHARLIE:  I don’t know about you but we’re hungry.

LINDSAY:  Well I’m not gonna serve it to you.  Come and get it.  Where’s Kirkland?

CHARLIE:  He went to see his mom.  He’s supposed to be telling his parents that we’re having a baby.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Kirkland Harrison

Donna Love

AT THE MCKINNONS, KIRKLAND IS IN THE LIVING ROOM WITH DONNA.

KIRKLAND:  Did you ever think of…maybe hiring a P.I. to start looking?

DONNA:  I…hadn’t thought of it much at all until you told me that you and Charlie were having a baby.  I’m so incredibly proud of you.

KIRKLAND:  Don’t try to change the subject grandma.  Maybe that’s something you should look into.

DONNA:  I don’t know.  What if my child wants nothing to do with me after I find him or her?

KIRKLAND:  I’m sure they’ll understand that your separation wasn’t your fault once you explain what happened.  Reginald took the baby away.  You couldn’t control that.

DONNA:  He did everything he could to keep Michael and me apart.  In his mind I didn’t belong with a stable boy.

KIRKLAND:  He’s done a lot of damage to this family, but we don’t have to carry on his legacy of pain and hurt.  We can break the cycle.

DONNA:  You’re exactly right.

KIRKLAND:  Mom and dad fought over me for years.  That still hurts.  I don’t want my child to go through that.

DONNA SMILES AND GENTLY PLACES ON HER RIGHT HAND ON KIRKLAND’S LEFT CHEEK.

DONNA:  Oh sweetheart.  None of us do.  I want peace in this family.

KIRKLAND:  We all do.

DONNA:  We just gotta get your sisters on board.

Bridget McKinnon

Jake McKinnon

AT THE HOSPITAL, BRIDGET IS LYING IN HER BED AS JAKE WALKS IN.  HE PULLS UP A STOOL AND SITS AT THE SIDE OF THE BED.

BRIDGET:  Dad.

JAKE:  Hey how are you feeling?

BRIDGET:  I’m almost a hundred percent.

JAKE:  Well that’s good right?

BRIDGET:  Yeah.

JAKE:  Why don’t you sound more excited about it?

BRIDGET:  Because what happens when I get out of here?  Is it back to the same old crap?

JAKE:  Doesn’t have to be.

BRIDGET:  Yeah it doesn’t, but it is.  You and mom are not getting back together.  Michele and I…well you know how that’s going.

JAKE:  Why do you look at it that way?  You can use this opportunity to heal.  We all can.

BRIDGET:  I don’t think I can…move to that level until I solve things with Michele.  In fact, I wanna see her.  I want to start the healing process.

JAKE:  Wait a second.  Who are you and what have you done with my daughter?

--------------------------------------------------------------

CHARLIE AND LINDSAY ARE SITTING ON THE BED.  BOTH HAVE THEIR LEGS FOLDED WHILE THEY EAT.

CHARLIE:  My baby says thank you.  Oh I’m…I didn’t mean to.  I’ve been so insensitive.  I’m so sorry.

LINDSAY:  No.  You should be able to freely talk about your baby.  I’m over all of that.  Really.

CHARLIE:  It would be understandable if you weren’t and I don’t want to sound like I’m rubbing it in.

LINDSAY:  Will you stop?  You’re not rubbing anything in.  I’m getting comfortable with the fact that there are other ways I can have children.  So what’s going on with you?

CHARLIE:  Funny thing is, everything is not exactly fine.  Do you remember that day you found me hunched over in pain at the hospital?

LINDSAY:  Yeah.

CHARLIE:  Well, I had just come from Dr. Mason’s office, and I heard her say something that disturbed me, and I’ve been sitting here wondering if I should tell my dad.

LINDSAY:  What happened?  What did you hear her say?

CHARLIE FLASHES BACK

EPISODE 288

THOMASINA:  Oh I looked into it.  The jobs she applied for went to candidates with lower GPAs than she had.

RUSS:  It’s more than a GPA Dr. Mason.

THOMASINA:  Of course it is.

RUSS:  What about her rotations and residencies?

THOMASINA:  The doctors she worked under recommended her white counterparts.  I felt for her.  We would meet in coffee shops and I would reassure her that she will find what she’s  looking for, and I said to myself that I would make a difference; I will not let one more black person go through what Deborah Boswell went through.

RUSS:  What are you saying?   That you didn’t hire Charlie Harrison for the Public Relations internship because she was white?

THOMASINA TURNS BACK AND FACES RUSS.

THOMASINA:  You’re damned right!

MEANWHILE, CHARLIE IS OUTSIDE AND HAS JUST HEARD WHAT THOMASINA HAS TOLD RUSS.

CHARLIE FLASHES BACK TO THE PRESENT.

LINDSAY:  Oh my God Charlie.  Are you sure that you heard Dr. Mason say that?

CAMERA PAN ON CHARLIE.  SLOW FADE OUT.  FADE IN TO THEME SONG.

PART 2

CHARLIE:  I know what I heard.

LINDSAY:  That’s…that’s real serious.  It’s actually hard to believe.

CHARLIE:  So you think I’m lying?

LINDSAY:  No that’s not what I’m saying at all.  It’s just…Dr. Mason is a really good doctor.

CHARLIE:  I’m not questioning her skills as a physician.   That’s not at all what I’m talking about.

LINDSAY:  I know that, but Thomasina Mason is an esteemed doctor at the hospital.

CHARLIE:  I’m not trying to get anyone in trouble.  Maybe I’m overreacting.  Maybe I’m overthinking the whole thing.

LINDSAY:  Sounds like you might be a little, but it seems like it’s really bothering you.

CHARLIE GETS OUT OF THE BED AND WALKS OVER TO THE TABLE.

CHARLIE:  It’s confusing.  I thought that with the baby news, that I could shake this feeling, or just let it go, but I can’t.

LINDSAY:  What is it exactly that’s bothering you about this?

CHARLIE:  I really wanted that internship but…

LINDSAY:  But she didn’t hire you because you were white.

CHARLIE:  Is it really that, though?  Is it because I wasn’t black?

LINDSAY:  I really don’t think that matters.  You’re going to your dad to see what your legal options are, aren’t you?

CHARLIE TURNS AROUND AND FACES LINDSAY.

CHARLIE:  If I tell my dad, he might decide to sue the hospital, and it wouldn’t be the first time he did it.

LINDSAY:  My mom told me about the last time he filed a lawsuit against the hospital.

CHARLIE:  That was for something completely different.

CHARLIE SIGHS.

LINDSAY:  Charlie you seem really concerned about this.

CHARLIE:  What leverage would I have?  This stuff…really doesn’t happen to white people.  I was rejected for a job because of my skin color, or lack thereof.  I know what my dad’s gonna say after I tell him.  Maybe I should just keep it to myself.

LINDSAY:  You have to get answers.  You won’t feel better until you talk to Uncle Cass.  I think you gotta tell him.  Have you talked to Kirkland about it?  What does he think?

CHARLIE:  No.  I haven’t yet.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

DONNA AND KIRKLAND SIT ON THE COUCH.

KIRKLAND:  It would almost take an act of God to get those two to start getting along.

DONNA:  I know.  Ever since Michele came back to Bay City, she’s wanted some type of revenge on Bridget.

KIRKLAND:  Bridget hasn’t exactly been innocent in the matter.

DONNA:  Neither one of them has.  I just want this to end.  Their feud has done a lot of damage to this family.  Your mother and Jake split up because of it.

KIRKLAND:  But you know what grandma, this family’s been messed up for a long time.  Way before Bridget and Michele were even born.

DONNA:  Hard to disagree with that.  Started with my father.

KIRKLAND:  Mom told me everything he did to you, Nicole and Uncle Peter.

DONNA:  Nicole gave birth to your cousin Allen when she was sixteen, and Reginald paid Allen’s father to take him away.  For years Nicole that her child was dead.

KIRKLAND:  Probably lead to her drug abuse.

DONNA:  It did.  She’s fine now though.  My poor sister has been through so much because of daddy.

KIRKLAND:  Don’t forget about you.

DONNA:  What about me?

KIRKLAND:  Everything he did to you and Grandpa Michael and…

DONNA:  My baby.

KIRKLAND:  Did you ever think that your baby might have…been in Bay City?

DONNA:  I don’t know.  I never really thought of that.

KIRKLAND:  Do you think your child is here now?

DONNA:  Kirkland I…I really don’t want to go down this road.

KIRKLAND:  But grandma you’ve got to.  Don’t you think you owe it to yourself to find the child that was taken from you?  Maybe you can find people that Reginald spent time with.

DONNA GETS UP, FACES AWAY FROM KIRKLAND,AND BEGINS TO THINK ABOUT REGINALD’S PAST DEALINGS.

DONNA:  Well daddy didn’t have a lot of friends.  If he did, he wouldn’t have said anything about my child.

KIRKLAND:  Didn’t he have like, a wife or something?  As evil as he was, he had to have had a soft spot for someone.

DONNA:  As a matter of fact, he did.

DONNA TURNS BACK TO FACE KIRKLAND.

DONNA:  Mary McKinnon.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

BRIDGET:  Things need to be different you know?

JAKE:  I’m proud of you.

BRIDGET:  I wish…mom would say that.

JAKE:  You talked to her?

BRIDGET:  Yeah.  I told her to get lost.

JAKE:  Why did you do that?

BRIDGET:  She came in here with this…empty apology.

JAKE:  She didn’t believe you when you said you didn’t have chlamydia, and she was wrong.

BRIDGET:  I’m just not ready to forgive mom yet.

MICHELE WALKS IN.

Michele McKinnon

MICHELE:  What about me?
